"It is not easy to disengage, but it is possible." - Neil Young
Ok, already we understand that folks are misunderstanding us again. maybe ppl read 2 fast or don't think b4 they type or something???
anyway.
Facebook is in full panic mode after the UN's comments.
On Friday, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said, "I can tell you, from our standpoint, we stand clearly against all hate speech, all calls for violence. That kind of language is just unacceptable, from whichever quarter it comes from."
The UN's condemnation of Meta comes after they greenlighted Facebook users to praise Ukraine's openly neo-nazi military unit while allowing calls for violence against 'Russians and Russian soldiers' when discussing the Ukraine invasion. The temporary change has allowed people living in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, and Russia to unleash as much hate speech as possible against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
FB/Meta's President for Global Affairs and former British Deputy PM Nick Clegg tweeted a statement Friday afternoon to explain the decision. He said the goal of the policy change was to allow people to voice their anger over the Russian invasion of Ukraine, adding the policy decision is a "temporary" measure.
"I want to be crystal clear: Our policies are focused on protecting people's rights to speech as an expression of self-defense in reaction to a military invasion of their country. The fact is, if we applied our standard content policies without any adjustments we would now be removing content from ordinary Ukrainians expressing their resistance and fury at the invading military forces, which would rightly be viewed as unacceptable," Clegg stated. https://twitter.com/nickclegg/status/1502349805221126144?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1502349805221126144%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.zerohedge.com%2Fgeopolitical%2Fun-condemns-meta-allowing-hate-speech-against-russia
so here's the problem.
FB allows citizen's to vent frustrations, but when other country citizen's make the mildest of points, they are sanctioned, deplatformed, warned over the most minor charges of disinfo, misinfo/mainfo.
why isn't everyone's right to free speech equal? Are Ukrainians more equal than say Canadians?
FB policy makes clear tat some speech is more equal than others. And that is plain discriminatory.
oh well, Zuckerberg won't be leading FB much longer. Similar to what we said about Schmidt @ Google. Gone. Same w/ Dorsey @ Twitter. Gone.
and Jeff, you're next. not sure before or after Mr Z, but someday your reign of power will come to an end.
The time for deleting one's facebook was years ago IMO. Little good comes out of FB, and social media in general has been a disaster for the human race
