Neil ... A Captain On The Beach ... but the seagulls are so far out of reach...
I don’t see how to pre-order in NYA. Where did the video above come from?
ReplyDeleteCan't see any links on NYA to order. Really excited about this release.
ReplyDeletePreorder isn't live yet. Should be up later today on the Archives site. Video came from Neil's YouTube page.
ReplyDeleteDo have a confirmation for my pre-order. Last time around it took about 5 covidian weeks to being delivered around the world (Carlsbad, CA to München, Germany).
ReplyDeleteIf there will be a British Greedy Hand subsidiary it might be here even before Christmas. It better be in 2020, as a proud citizen of the EU I don't need no British taxation, customs fees or trans-Channel border traffic jams.
Pre-order in place. I ordered at the regular Greedy Hand store, but I suppose shipping to the Netherlands will be from the UK, i.e. without taxes. Still had a 15% gift coupon so ended up paying $212, which is a decent deal for a box like this. Let the waiting begin!
ReplyDeleteI can't seem to find it in the Greedy Hand store.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't the pre-order come through the NYA first?
ReplyDeleteI can't find it, not even on the greedy hand, is there a link somebody can send me?
It's possible that it's sold out already. There's only 3,000 copies. It was up and is now gone.
ReplyDeleteLooks like presale went live 12pm and sold out in minutes. I still expect a more moderately priced CD only cassette, like Vol. 1. 3000 isn't a whole lot, I think Neil underestimated the popularity of this box. I mean, if 7200 copies of the 73 disc Europe 72 by the Dead sells out in no time, it's no surprise 3000 of this box are gone even faster. Sorry for all that missed out!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking all day but never saw it.
ReplyDeleteSame for me, not a chance????
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting to see how hard artists make it for you to throw money their way.
ReplyDeleteWas there a limit on the number you could order? Are we going to be seeing it on ebay for $500? Already feeling cheated.
ReplyDeleteI have been watching both Greedy Store and NYA since 7:00 AM PCF time every few minutes and never saw the links. Still checking as you would think a notice would be posted if sold out. Maybe subscribers got first crack which is fair enough but at least put out a notice saying sold out. Until I see a formal notice I will keep an eye out.
ReplyDeleteI subscribe but have seen nothing.
ReplyDeleteIf this is true then I am livid, can barely use words to express how upset and hurt I am. Why only 3000 copies, and why only think to mention this today?
ReplyDeletehmmm, 3000 boxes sold out in minutes? At what price?
ReplyDeleteSeems hard to believe. Great for NYA if so.
But we suspect some sort of ordering glitch for listing getting pulled.
What is the point in making long, exciting adverts and putting them on YouTube if no one can ever actually purchase the product being advertised?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the point in paying to be part of NYA (effectively a fan club) and not being given a chance to buy the box set which is explicitly aimed at and for hardcore fans?
What is the point in having a system where they literally know the EXACT number of fee-paying fans that Neil has, and then manufacturing a far lower number of box sets?
Great feeling waiting eleven years for nothing.
I have looked regularly through the day and saw nothing (UK). Emailed but no reply. If there are only 3000 that is totally unacceptable. How many of Archives 1 were sold?
ReplyDeleteThrasher, let’s hope so - I am gutted here!
ReplyDeleteDid anyone manage to order it while the link was up?
ReplyDeleteYes, I got a NYA email yesterday morning, followed the link to the UK store and it was there to buy. About 0900 Saturday morning. Sorry
DeleteEmailed the Archives team. It's not sold out. The product showed up prematurely in the webstore and was taken down. There will be a live link posted in the album selection in the file cabinet.
ReplyDeleteYes, I managed to order...... The link from YouTube took me there, archives box in top left of greedy hand store
ReplyDeleteAfter I got confirmation email I went back in and it was return to greendale editions back where the archives was 🤷🏻♂️
ReplyDeleteI did the same as you. Copied the link from YouTube, kept refreshing the Greedy Hand page till the box appeared. Placed my order, got my confirmation number.
DeleteThank you very much Stro. Did they say what time the link would be back up?
ReplyDeleteThe second promo shows video clips that look like Vol 1 DVD track video accompaniment (tapes rolling, etc). But this set is only in CD? Makes no sense.
ReplyDeleteWhat’s the price on this?
ReplyDelete250 dollars, so a bit more expensive than the vol. 1 DVD version. The Vol. 1 CD version was only 100 dollars, but that didn't have the book and poster and big box. I got a 15% discount that came with the NYA subscription.
DeleteHolding out hope the listing reappears but this "limited pre-order" trend much music has gone down has sucked a lot of joy out of music purchases for me. Get there first, waiting in line and refresh frantically just to maybe have a chance to support an artist. True pre-order should be, come one, come all, we'll produce enough to fill all your orders and then have some inventory left for those who maybe had to work, had lives apart from the refresh button... This run-for-it-Black-Friday-Record-Store-Day-then-flip-it-on-Discogs world has me reconsidering a lifetime of enjoying physical music media. I'll hold out faith Neil and team are just fixing things behind the scenes but buying an album should be a fun event, not a stressor.
ReplyDeleteIt’s one thing to make a super-deluxe wooden box (like the CSNY 1974 one) which is limited edition, but this is literally the music fans have waited for for almost 50 years. Not fair to limit it to only 3000 fans, Am trying so hard not to swear/cry.
ReplyDeleteAnd if Neil Young comes back with “you can listen to it all on the NYA for only $19.99” I don’t know what I’ll say. I don’t see him swapping actual physical cars for video games, or actual bonfires for videos of bonfires on a laptop screen. Physical versions of this music which means the WORLD to us is what we would like, we’re prepared to pay for it, please just make it available to all!
ReplyDeleteIt would have made more sense to have Greendale as the limited product. It’s pretty niche even for Neil fans.
ReplyDeleteJust find the lack of any info on the archive website strange.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they're having Greedy Hand issues. I saw the link up and could have gone for it but I'm waiting for the UK store to come up. The listing was looking odd and the track listing was not showing right when I saw it. At no point has Neil said this would be limited to 3000 units and it makes no sense for him to announce a Canadian and UK store being opened today for there to be such a limited run with so much demand. Much more likely that the new stores are giving them problems and so there are launch issues. Just a little more patience...
ReplyDeleteSays 3000 copies on the first trailer
Deletebeen checking all day in UK, I'm a subscriber too.. no links, no subscriber pre-sale nowt.. gutted is an understatement
ReplyDeleteI’m more than gutted if this means NYA subscribers have missed out. More like livid. Surely you would want to satisfy your closest fans first...? Will seriously consider cancelling my subscription now...
ReplyDeleteArchives Volume II, only available at NYA.
ReplyDeleteBut we’ll post a link all over YouTube so genuine fans miss out.
Greyrider I do hope you’re right, will apologise wholeheartedly if all this moaning is premature. But I simply can’t stay awake all night just in case the link goes live only to wake up in the morning to find that it’s sold out. As Gogmagog says, this shouldn’t be stressful, it should be enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteI’m more than gutted if this means NYA subscribers have missed out. More like livid. Surely you would want to satisfy your closest fans first...? Will seriously consider cancelling my subscription now...

ReplyDeleteBizarre..... I’m sad. Thumbing through his hard copy journal while listening to Archives I was a great joy. But I wake at 6am in Melbourne, Australia and it seems as though Archives II has passed me by.....😔
ReplyDeleteLet’s be honest though. This amateurish mess is typical Neil. He could easily have used the Warners machine to do this properly, but he had to do it his own way and start from what looks like scratch.
ReplyDeleteWhen you compare it to the Tom Petty box, that was a slick operation. The dead could sell literal garbage to their fans at this point and make money. So many other bands that Neil could have learned from to do this correctly.
We waited eleven years for this!!!!!!!???
ReplyDeleteResponse I got at 3:30 pm ET from the customer support email:
ReplyDeleteThanks for writing in!
Archives Vol. II is not sold out and has not been put made available for pre-order yet.
The front of the NYA File Cabinet will be updated with a pre-order link as soon as the pre-order is live. Keep checking back.
Thanks for your patience, and thanks for being a part of NYA!
In which case I will Hold my tongue and cross my fingers. Good luck everyone!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteManaged to order it from the US store when the link was live earlier, didn't want to miss out in case the separate UK store doesn't appear before it sells out.
Got free shipping so the paypal charge after conversion was 201 GBP, just hope it's despatched from the UK. If not then approx 50 GBP in import charges awaits.
You only live once, no more music purchases for about 6 months for me now anyway..
The inclusion of 12 months NYA membership is a nice touch at least.
Yup, confirmed. Same message. We're good.

When? It's night in Europe.
ReplyDeleteSo Tired
Meet the new Neil, same as the old Neil.
ReplyDeleteDeja Vu
ReplyDeletezejt
where's Archives Guy when you need him? Maybe retired after NYA Vol #1?
ReplyDeletePaging AG, please pickup the nearest Courtesy Phone.
It's up! https://neilyoung.warnerrecords.com/neil-young-archives-ii-pre-order.html
ReplyDeleteI take it all back, sorry, am embarrassed at my rudeness. Go go go people: https://neilyoung.warnerrecords.com/neil-young-archives-ii-pre-order.html
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Confirmed. It shows up in the Greedy Hand store.
ReplyDeleteThe pre-order option is back online ... ;-)
ReplyDeleteJust came running here to say the pre-order is up, but y'all are way ahead of me. Ordered and confirmed. Now to explain to my wife what I've just done
ReplyDeleteSomeone posted about getting a15% off code for signing up for NYA......how’d you get that......I don’t recall getting that offer when I signed up
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the heads up everyone. Always trust your Thrasher's Wheat before the Archives filing cabinet. Could have used the 15% off but didn't want to delay in trying to figure out how to get it. I just went ahead and coughed up the bucks.
ReplyDeleteI’ve tried ordering but store wouldn’t accept my credit card and directed me to PayPal. PayPal are now saying my payment is processed but I have no confirmation from greedy hand. So frustrating
ReplyDeleteAn email should arrive from PayPal within 5 mins like for me and almost at the same time I got one from Greedy Hand. Check your spam folder, perhaps....? Now for the wait for international delivery for me.....
DeleteI've tried to order through my mastercard but refused with this message "use paypal" ! WTF ????
ReplyDeleteSame here. NY store says PayPal not authorised. PayPal says awaiting confirmation from Warner Elektra.
DeleteJust managed to order I hope. Things are never easy with NY. All part of the charm?
ReplyDeleteJust a heads up folks. When you go to the Greedy Hand store directly from NYA, you still have to log on to the store, and then Archive Volume Two will appear. Good luck that everyone can get this that want it.
ReplyDeletePeace 🙏
UK store link: https://neilyoung.warnerartists.net/uk/archives-volume-ii-1972-1976-32.html
ReplyDelete£210
:)
Shame I already bought it through US store. Hope customs doesn't give me a hard time...
DeleteI also bought it through US store before realising there was a UK link. Williams probs have to pay some duty on it.
DeleteThanks to the thrashers wheat community for the heads up!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCan’t wait for this release
Add to this Return to Greendale and we’re in for a very good end to the year!
I tried to buy Archives Vol. II from Greedy Hand, was logged in to NYA, I paid via Paypal, while Paypal was authorizing i got some error message, then couldn't go back to Greedy Hand....but then after a minute i got two emails, one from Paypal saying the payment went thru, and a confirmation email from Greedy Hand that the order was completed with a confirmation number.....so it does work....i hope lol
ReplyDeleteit wouldn't be Neil without a little rust in the machinery lol
Thank god that's done. I can go to bed happy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Neilist for the UK link. I've ordered Archives II now, credit card is working evne if haven't yet received a confirmation e-mail.
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess...
Man 72-76 - what an otherworldly and magical run of albums
ReplyDeleteI think this volume is the big one for me as far eras of his career to cover
Dare I say it Volume 3 will be huge too (hopefully we’re not waiting another ten years!!!)
Presuming there will one day be a volume that covers the 90s is very exciting too
we won't be alive for Volume III lol
ReplyDeleteWell this is just a real nice surprise! Got my order placed for Archives II today. Includes the high res downloads of everything so I'm not concerned about the regression from blu-ray to CD. I had written off the possibility of getting any more archives boxes since Neil seems or seemed to love the subscription format (I do not like that approach, but continue to renew my archives membership since its so reasonably priced).
ReplyDeleteI do want to point out that I ordered Archives I box on Mar 26 2009 and Archives II box on Oct 16 2020. That is 11 years, 4 months and 20 days between the archives. A bit of a stretch, but hey I did a few other things while I was waiting.
Well what an interesting day. I have been watching NYA and Greedy Hand is 7:00 AM this morning PCF time and now the moment has finally arrived the price of US$250.00 plus tax plus S&H is now for me time to draw the line.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a fun day in the sense of how we used to stand in line (sometimes in the rain) to buy tickets at a allotted time to be sure to grab a few. Over time concert tickets availability became easier thanks to the online world but at a cost I was no longer comfortable paying. Once tickets went over US$100.00 that was it for me.
This is strictly by own choice I do not blame Neil or his organization for the prices of items these days it is what it is. Luckily for me while I will miss out on a few tasty outtakes and the Odeon/Budokan classic I have recordings of other 76 shows to help me bridge the gap.
I have followed Neil since the mid 70's and have faithfully bought all his records over the years, attended many many concerts (before the tickets reached $100.00) CSNY in 2000 in Chicago was US$75.00 and that made me think twice but is was worth it. Likewise those lucky enough to get Arch Vol II I am sure you will see value for money, enjoy. I guess I could join NYA at a very reasonable US$19.99 but at the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man it isn't quite the same.
I will still keep buying Neil records and I hope the bootleg series comes out as individual releases rather than a pricey book set.
I look forward to reading all the reviews of Arch Vol II and reading entries here at Thrasher Wheat over the coming weeks. As always keep up the good work Thrasher.
Walk on...
Kevin D. in Morro bay.
You would not be disappointed with an NYA subscription
DeleteI’m sure he’ll put the whole of vol2 up there
All the videos he puts up to really make it worth the $20 and that’s for a full year
11 years, 4 months and 20 days
ReplyDeleteRidiculous!
Has Neil ever stated how many volumes there will be?? I vaguely remember some about there being 5?
ReplyDeleteRust Never Sleeps lol
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThrasher, I hope you got your order in! If anyone shouldn't miss the window, it's you.
ReplyDeleteI bought from US store so will probably have to pay import duty which isn’t ideal, but at least I’ll get it, am ultimately pleased! Sorry again for panicking earlier, but this hasn’t been the best organised release ever!
ReplyDeleteFor comparison, Elton John also has a box set of rarities coming out this Christmas, and today I received my third email with a third preview track inviting me to pre-order my box set (multiple formats), with no limit of 3000 worldwide.
I’m sure Neil’s box will be better, but the build up to release certainly feels less professional than Elton’s!
Anyway, once again, good luck fellow thrashers, hope everyone who wants gets vol II xx
Hey folks
ReplyDeleteI managed to order form the US store although I am in the UK. It should be ok eh? It might just take longer to arrive? Got to use my 15% discount as well so very happy.
Herr is the link to the Elton John email for anyone who wants to compare and contrast!
ReplyDeletehttps://mailchi.mp/eltonjohn/heres-to-the-next-time?e=41a83c9042
yes, quite a day.
ReplyDeleteWhat we encountered is that we did get a kicked back rejected order b/c shipping and billing address didn't snyc. We have a login registration w/ Greedy hand store but hadn't logged in 1st.
So it would seem that you need to login into your Greedy hand store accnt 1st. This is diff than NYA account.
Once logged into GH store, all of your info is retained or can be updated. then you order.
neil giveth, we taketh and the circle goes around.
so 11 years later, only 1 month to go before ... just as we posted in 2009 ...
And I've been waiting for you.
For such a long time now.
Normally, we say tonight's the night. But, today's the day.
Somehow, in the miracle of all miracles, the Holy Grail arrives!
Hell freezes over. Peace in the Mid-east. World hunger is solved. Poverty erased.
My Little Box at the Top of the Stairs: The Archives Finally Arrives!
Great ... somehow there ended up 2 items in my cart ... didn't notice it until it was too late.
ReplyDeleteI clicked add to cart twice because after the first one it was still empty, but AFAIK when I tried the creditcard it was still 1. Creditcard wouldn't work, so I tried paypal and had to re-login and all of a sudden it's a $75 discount on a $499 order.
I hope they want to fix this, otherwise I'll have to try to sell it to another Dutchie (just the costs, not trying to make a profit). To customer #3001 - I am sorry.
The It's Man
Hi
DeleteCostumer #3001 here.
Are you still selling?
😉
Done and done. UK store with credit card and EU delivery, no problem. Finally, its coming.
ReplyDeleteTomatron’s Take:
ReplyDeleteThis box set release perplexes. Musically, the Archives 2 is super exciting. I mean, almost the entirety of The Old Homestead disc is unheard recordings, and the other new discs are loaded with new takes and buried treasure too. But putting it out on CD?? It’s higher quality just to stream it on NYA, where it all will be. My Vol 1 box set is absolute enjoyment. Just throw in a DVD (not even blu-ray, still amazing), fire up the projector, hit Play All, and watch the tape spin. Massey Hall is a gorgeous assembly of film, Journey Through The Past is trippy as can be, and even Crazy Horse Fillmore is wonderfully rewatchable with its abundance of classic photography synced up to the quality audio.
Now, the Vol 2 promo on YouTube features clips of this same type of archival and art footage. It is possible these are only short snippets made just for the commercial, but it’s highly unlikely. That means a full video edition of Vol 2 probably exists! And it will either be released in a future edition, or will all be available on NYA at some tier or another.
I totally get why fans are preordering the CD set. It is limited edition, we’ve been waiting for it for anywhere from 11 years to multiple decades, and it will sit nicely beside the big Vol 1 box. But considering that the music will be available in higher resolution online, what you end up with is a $250ish box. A cool box with a book, yeah, but still. Listening to Homegrown on CD? Never gonna happen. I have that goddamn masterpiece of an album on vinyl. In the car, it’s on my phone in the highest possible streaming quality. And all the artwork for the individual discs will be there too, zoomed in to more detail than you could get with a magnifying glass.
For a while, it seemed like maybe the video Archives set format was gone with LA Johnson no longer around to mastermind it, but this new promo clip proves that the audio-visual version of Vol 2 is a thing, somewhere, somehow. It’s just plain silly that Neil Young, of all people, is releasing a box set on compact disc. Come November, I’ll be cooking up some honeyslide-worthy playlists on NYA and FEELING THE MUSIC.
Looks like I missed a rollercoaster of a ride today. I just saw a post from NYA on Instagram, popped over to the NYA app and ordered a copy. I *nearly* ordered three copies by accident but luckily spotted the hefty total when I got to PayPal!
ReplyDeleteNow just have to hope that the ongoing apocalypse doesn’t ramp up before I get to hear it!
Well, it's not very often that I post here. Not because I don't love you all, I take a look and read the postings every day, it's just that I usually don't have much to say......but I've done it. Despite my battles with myself over this, despite the cost, despite having already bought 3 of the discs already, despite....well, I finally figured that I'm a 51 year old and that there aren't that many artists I admire who are doing much any more (especially this year)....and that this is Neil for crying out loud and how many more times will this happen? What's that lyric from "Thrasher"...I remember.."burned my credit card for fuel"....well I've just taken a burn on my credit card for Neil, and long may he run! I can't wait! Something to smile about in 2020 at last, love and peace to you all from the UK, stay well xx
ReplyDeleteI stopped buying discs of Neil’s a couple years ago when I realized the likely duplication with the archives. Now I just have duplicate digital files...
ReplyDeleteI figured the musical format was immaterial once they included the hi-res files. That’s all I will use; I still use the MP3’s from Volume 1. Not sure the box would be any cheaper without CD’s anyway.
All of this save the book will be available on NYA. I’m ok with paying $250 for a book. Others won’t and that’s ok too. The music matters and will be available to all.
Might be a good time for me to invest in a real DAC, though.
i'm with you Old Black! :)
ReplyDeletePlaced my order and looking forward to the box. Curious about this mention of a 15% discount. I've been an NYA member from Day 1, and have used the the codes that appeared for ticket preorders for shows [remember those *sigh*]. But I didn't see any discount options for the box set, and that would have been nice to have. Can those of you who said they got a discount explain how you got that?
ReplyDeleteI just subscribed for NYA.com this week, in my welcome e-mail I received a one time code. The box set is sold out now. I sincerely hope that a 'normal', more reasonably priced version will come out as well. I can't imagine it won't. Come Along and Say You Will is now also available on Spotify. Thought it'd remain an NYA exclusive but ah well.
DeleteLove ya, Neil. But... I'm choosing to take a relaxed approach on this one. Perhaps a "mass market" edition will surface at some point, and that may be more within reach for me. Given my other interests and investments, I think NYA digital will be the way to go for now.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the website glitches, I agree with @gogmagagog: there's a lot of anxiety and relatively little joy in this "clamor like it's Black Friday" approach--which is essentially what putting up a pre-order for a limited run of 3,000 copies encourages for us devotees who hardly want to miss out on the offered content. While it may not be Neil's or anyone else's intent, this can't help but feel a bit like high pressure sales tactics (especially at these prices, compared to what NYAI on CD cost back in '09). The more undue pressure, the less attraction for me. I've never liked Black Friday, and buying music to take home should not be as high-stakes and exhausting as dealing with ticket agents for a live show.
I have much admiration for Neil's vision and perseverance in forging his own path, and deep gratitude for all the music and other creations continue to bring to me. I have a hunch I'm not the first one to send the message that his approach may not be economical or practical for the average consumer. The word quixotic, indeed, springs to mind when looking at the ambitious scope and troubled execution of the entire Archives mission.
As @Kevin D. says, it is purely a matter of personal choice (and resources) as to where one draws the line. While I look forward to eventually partaking in the delights and tangents of the full NYA experience, the time is not quite yet. I have too wide a range of interests and pursuits to commit to "no more music purchases for the next six months", as another poster succinctly put it. Moreover, the anxiety of feeling compelled to commit before a limited run sells out is simply not worth contemplating any further.
That being so, I have nonetheless hugely enjoyed the recent NYA releases: Homegrown, Roxy, and Tuscaloosa, and truly do wish to hear more--at the right moment, under optimum circumstances. Given that individual discs of NYAI were offered for sale on Neil's website via Warner/Reprise, I wonder if the same will eventually happen for NYAII? If so, that would enable dodging a few repeats. If not, one cannot complain about hi-res streaming with plenty of extra features. Everything else is happening virtually and remotely these days--why not music, if the quality is genuinely there? When we're talking about organizing and presenting the sheer volume of content encompassed by NYA, it may be the only manageable approach.
I'm still here for the music, the visa, and the muse. Yet, now and again, one finds oneself at a fork in the road of plenty. Such is life. Such is Neil. "We come and go that way, my friend... I'll always be a part of you."
~Om-Shanti.
Small update: "Come Along and Say You Will" by Neil and the Stray Gators has popped up on itunes as single. I thought Neil had an exclusive deal with Amazon for mp3?
ReplyDeleteThe NYA plot thickens.
I was lucky to get an order in early. I also forgot about the code I'd had until checking my subscription welcome e-mail from two years ago. There are no cancellations, only returns so I wrote to customer service and gave them my code, hopefully they will be humane enough to apply it and save me almost $40. I'll see what kind of response I get. I held off getting the other CD's so this will be an entire collection for me, no duplicates, which I suspected might happen.
ReplyDeleteWell what an absolute mess they made of that. I finally managed to place an order at around 22:15pm in the UK. This should have been a NYA subscribers only purchase to begin with an exclusive link. I also feel 3000 is a very small number for this volume. The actual box and content looks great, I bought the three duplicate releases on vinyl and HiRes so pretty happy to have CD versions. Looking forward to this landing in November. Hoping the 6 Bootlegs are not also limited and subject to a similar presale mess.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY managed to order through the US site (I live in the UK) The link on the Greedy Hand says UK sold out. Very poor service for die hard fans. Why 3000 copies only? Surely Neil wants to make (Star)buck or two!
ReplyDeleteJust like Powederinger63, UK site sold out for me so I had to order via the US site and accept the import charges and probably not having the box on release date! Poor Service indeed.
ReplyDeleteSo, having had a chance to sleep on it, I would make three observations.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I am obviously delighted to have reserved one of these fantastic looking boxes! A little embarrassed at my panicked ranting above, but these things matter to us!
Secondly however, this was not a smooth or enjoyable experience for fans! When a limited number of tickets go on sale for a show or festival, it is stated clearly when the tickets will go on sale. This means people can plan around it, and hopefully be near a computer to purchase the tickets at that time. Surely announcing a release time in advance would have helped, rather than rumours and uncertainty on the Internet!
Thirdly, I feel a little disappointed that the link to the presale was posted on YouTube. An email to subscribers, or even just links on the NYA would have been a fairer way to ensure hard-core fans were given the first opportunity to purchase this stupendous looking box.
Anyway, hopefully Neil’s team and warner will take this on board for next time, which will hopefully be sooner than eleven years time!
I finally ordered Archives II yesterday evening through UK store. But I'm still angry about the organisation. I'm a early subscriber (first day, I think) but I received no mail announcing the pre-order and found only the uk link thanks to a comment here on trasherwheat...
ReplyDeleteIf I understand concert tickets could be sold with this method (except we have usualy a starting hour to book), I don't appreciate it for physical releases. Think about the difference of time between US, Europe, Asia, Australia, etc... It means some hard-core fans have to be wait all night long...
Thos: Next time?
ReplyDeleteOh boy, I do hope this mess will be taken care of right away.
I was not among the lucky ones getting a copy.
Was at work and could not check the PC all the time.
This morning (saturday) I received the preorder link from NYA. A little late so to speak. By that time the youtube link had been floating around for perhaps 15-20 hours and the box sold out for perhaps just as long?
I think the Archives team should learn from this right away and produce a number of extra boxes (an amount of a third the subscriber number?) and offer them EXCLUSIVELY on NYA. If some are not sold they can do the Youtube trick.
I'm sorry folks but I feel pretty pissed.
Anyway, Thank you for the music Neil and congrats to my lucky fellow fans. Have fun with the box, you deserve it :-)
Boy, I might be wrong but it still seems to be available on the US store. Not ideal, but might be worth a shot: https://neilyoung.warnerrecords.com/neil-young-archives-ii-pre-order.html
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Well done NYA, even Trump or Boris could have organized this better, which takes some believing ! I have every one of Neil's releases I believe (hard to keep track to be certain) including Archives Part 1 Blu Ray to be denied the chance of buying Part 2 is quite frankly amazing. Times when Neil's music has been sometimes average, me and many others have got the message and stay with he programme, so to be rewarded with little or no chance of buying Part 2 leaves me with a very sour taste in my mouth, why does it have to be like this ? It's pre-order so leave the order book open for 2 weeks or even a week then everyone has chance to buy one and the label knows how many to produce. Problem solved, simples. Rubbish treatment of some of the most die hard and faithful fans in music, Pathetic. In future maybe I'll think MEH to you and your music, my loss a lot, Neil's loss a little ! .....Eat A Peach, Neil.
ReplyDeleteIt's available again on the US store right now for anyone who's not grabbed one yet

Now that we will have the box in our "Greedy Hands". How will you listen too the high resolution files? What high digital audio player do you recommend?
ReplyDeletethanks

This is a great question, and I'd love to see what others suggest. I've just been using my iPhone 11 with a dac for Tidal and NYA, but I know there are better options
DeleteI use a Sony WM6 HiRes Walkman.
DeleteI'm justifying my purchase in two ways:
ReplyDelete1. I want the book (which I wouldn't get with a CD-only version, which is how I bought Volume I)
2. I've been saving up for this for 11 years. That's 43 cents (USD 0.43) a week.
I’m an NYA subscriber too and had an email from NYA alerting me to the presale. Any subscriber who has signed up for notifications should have gotten an email about it.
ReplyDeleteThe weird thing is the greedy hand store has a glitch and won’t take my money so I always have to have my husband sign onto his account and buy things. So the greedy hand is not so greedy with me / it makes it hard for me to spend my money in the store.
Yes, it was quite a day, yesterday in the ever rustie Neil Young shakey deal world.
ReplyDeletewe have to admit that this all just how things roll. as thrashette often remarks, it's not easy being a neil fan. not everyone is cut out to be a rustie.
so, neil giveth, we taketh and the circle goes round & round.
"Round and round and round we spin,
To weave a wall to hem us in,
It won't be long, it won't be long
How slow and slow and slow it goes,
To mend the tear that always shows.
It won't be long, it won't be long."
We had a noteworthy day here @ TW has comments exceeded 100 for the first time in quite a while. So much wheat and so little chaff. Thanks folks.

ReplyDeleteHey bro'
Thanks a lot, but right before checking back here on Trashers for any new info, I actually managed to order a copy from the US store. Strange because it said "sold out" all day. After numerous attempts with different visa/master cards and several messages to check/alter logincodes and address, I made it with paypal. Even got the discount, thanks to whoever for mentioning. Vol.ll is coming my way, I'm now part of the party :-)
Thanks to those (@Andrew J @Harm) who reminded me about the discount code that we received when initially subscribing to NYA. How could I have forgotten about that after nearly two years of virtually nothing happening in the world? Here's hoping the folks at Greedy Hand will honor the code [not quite the importance of Honour the Treaties] retroactively. Seems the least they could do, right? Interestingly, I received the email from NYA with direct link to order AFTER I had already placed an order.
ReplyDeleteTo those still wanting a copy...The Canadian Greedy Hand Store has more available right now!

ReplyDeleteWithout the addition of an xtra DVD or Bluray or 2 for music videos, I will pass on the box set. I was under the impression that's I would be getting in an archives 2 purchase back in 2009. I can go to the website instead to enjoy this release. I would even buy individual archive album releases in LP form if that was available. I have given up on the CD format. Neil is partially responsible for me making this transition away from CD.
ReplyDeleteThe audio/visual preview of CAASYW that just dropped on NYA backs up what I typed above; the Vol 2 songs will have video accompaniment just like the Vol 1 box set discs presented. As of now, only available online, unless Neil and co. decide Blu-Ray isn’t too expensive to produce after all!
