Just got back from being on the road since seeing Neil at the Wang on 7/11 ...Thanks Dan! Great meeting up in Chicago and we'll see you down the road!
the show was exquisite ...
Having seen Chicago 2nd night and watched the live stream of Detroit this one was at a whole different level ... Neil got into a trance and it was magical ... he hit his stride pretty early on Pocahantas and maintained it to the end ... when Neil is at the top of his game the song selection doesn't matter and that's how it felt that night ... that said, Birds was really special, the Le Noise songs were completely epic, Ohio was powerful and moving ... we were 2nd row (grateful to Neil forever for giving the fans the best seats) and Neil was just on his game ...
what more to say?
Its hard to compare years and genres and shows but this was exceptional up there with all the best ones I've seen.

ReplyDeleteA week has passed and it may be a little late now, but like Dan I've been on the road.
The road brought me from Scotland to see the Boston show on 7/12. I travelled without tickets and hampered by the entry requirements. Dan and I made contact thru this site and thanks to him I got to see the show. Unfortunately we still haven't met. The convoluted way we arranged for me to use Dan's tickets involved trust and good faith on both sides and I am very appreciative of his efforts.
I've been visiting this site for years. I don't post too often but it is clear there are true fans who are fine, decent people on here. Thanks again to Dan and to you for hosting this site and bringing people like us together.
I've seen Neil enough over the years to recognise the magical trance Dan speaks of in his review. I loved the show on 7/12 - a Neil Young show puts me on a high for weeks. I felt he drifted in and out of that trance during the show, distracted at some points by some of the clowns in the crowd - but the highlights far outweighed the wobbly moments. We got back home late last night and my wife who is not quite the Neil fan I am is insisting on repeated plays of Horseshoe Man, Love and War and Ohio as her highlights - I'm happy to oblige.
We went up to Toronto after Boston (first time in Canada) and visited Massey Hall and thought how great it would be to see our man on home soil! Fingers crossed.

As mentioned, we did meet up with Dan in Chicago and had a chance to speak a bit. It was all a blur down in the pit. Nothing like that crowd energy buzz right before the lights go down and Neil walks out on stage.
Apologies on your being hampered by the entry requirements here in the USA, land of the free, home of the brave. Hopefully Canada was less of a hassle? Good to hear you were able to visit Massey Hall before the renovation. Now you have come back after its completion. Nice to hear that your wife might be coming around. Repeated plays of Horseshoe Man should help.
So as Sir Paul says, and in the end, the connections we take, is equal to the connections we make.
