CONTEST: Win A Pair of Neil Young Solo Tickets in Chicago, July 1

Neil Young Solo
Chicago Auditorium, Sunday, July 1st

Thanks to a very, very generous Thrashers Wheat reader, we are pleased to be able to offer a pair of tickets to see Neil Young in concert at the Chicago Auditorium, Sunday, July 1st (2nd Show). The seats being offered are excellent Orchestra Right Center, Row C, seats.

In order to win these tickets, the donor has suggested a Neil story contest. Send in your Neil story and the generous donator will pick a winner.

Maybe a Neil Young concert memory? Or a favorite Neil song story? What Neil's music means to you? Any Neil story that you think will resonate with the judge and indicate that the tickets will be well enjoyed. That is to say, we're not looking for excellence in writing first and foremost. It's more about the story and its passion and appreciation of Neil's music.

E-mail your Neil Young story directly to agreetis@seyfarth.com

  1. did i tell you I walked up on Billy Talbot. I thanked Him for coming out. he looked at me like Who the Fuck are You. his hair was unnaturally black and greasy. I was soon escorted to be not near the buses! post haste. right after the show I left and immediately there NY and Elliot. His joined at the hip twin. they were happy and high post show, smiling. whats not to like. crowds were great.

  2. Slightly off topic but an appeal to the TW community for advice - please!

My work schedules changed in the last few days and the good lady and myself are now flying to Boston hoping to catch the show on 12th July.

Flights booked and hotel - but show is a sell out. I've travelled to the States before to see shows but I've always been able to organise in time to buy tickets through the usual channels. Boston is a sell out so it looks like I need to go to an agency!! Ace has been suggested? I know this will cost a small fortune and feel like a mighty rip-off but I don't care. The years are passing and I want to take every opportunity I can to see Neil.

I remember when tickets first went on sale there was something about Neil trying to ensure that they didn't fall into the hands of scammers? So my question is - if I buy tickets through a re-sale agency is there anything to suggest they will not be honoured at the door?? Does anybody know? Can anyone point me in the right direction? All that matters to me is to get us into the hall even if we're hanging from the rafters.

Cheers to all from Scotland where it is unusually hot and sunny!

  3. @ Richard - That's great that you can swing the trip from Scotland. Bummer on sellout.

We don't have too much to say on ticket brokers other than don't.

How about Chicago instead? Maybe get in touch w/ the ticket donor above with your tale?

Some super choice seats might be worth the change in destination. Seeing Neil close & solo is a pretty intense experience, if we do say so.

Good luck & Don't Be Denied!

  5. my story: I used to be obsessed with Neil Young -- every note, every lyric -- and then he suddenly decided that lack of quality was actually the hallmark of quality -- and down the rabbit hole of oxymoronic balderdash I've fallen.

  6. Richard- try stubhub.com. I don’t like ticket brokers but use them when desperately needed. They are a legit resale agency, I checked their website and see they have tickets listed to the Boston shows and they do stand by their third party sales. I’ve used them for Neil tickets before (I cross check seat location on a seating map for venues before buying.)

That’s fantastic you’re flying in from Glasgow! We often plan vacations around seeing Neil and have seen him in Nimes and Belfast, Tellluride, and at Carnegie hall, among other locales. We most recently pulled a crazy all nighter from LA to see NYCH in Fresno. And we have tickets to see him in Detroit in July (just need to figure out how to get there!)

Good luck and have a great trip and show!

  7. In order to avoid scammers, your credit card is your ticket per Neil Young Archives, and no physical tickets were issued. I'm not sure if this policy has changed with organizations re-selling seats. Before you buy, please make sure it is credit card entry only. Hope to see you in Boston! If you are on any of the Rustie pages, you can post that you need tickets. Some folks buy more than they can use, or plans change. Good luck!

  8. Hi Thrasher's Wheat.
NYCH concerts, now solo concerts !!! oulala too well and plus a contest for 2 tickets in Chicago my last visit to this city dates back to 1997 and what memories ......
By far ... write a pamphlet about Neil Young and his music what a good idea; by far Neil Young is for me a committed artist whom I would like to meet in his earthly activities, by far and in the meantime I listen, I look at the texts of the songs accompanied by music and I try to "play" them to my way? I take the opportunity to thank again M Minstasch (https://youtu.be/fWMGFnXHk44) I do not get tired of this session!
Maybe it would be possible to do a new session with Crazy Horse 2018 No? it would be great!
In any case and by far I have "attended" the NYCH turn off concert in May 2018 on my computer plugged into speakers I had a treat as well as the live solo concert from Omémée in 2017 ... .with the public out with the TV ...... and finally, because I will not tell my life, what memories of the last concert in Paris with Promise Of The Real !!
I was in the pit before the group in front of Micah who had a problem with his guitar ..... This being what a great moment .......... good here I needed to tell these moments .
    Thank you
    Jose of Paris

  12. The Neil memories that jump out most to me are from my first year in college. I'd finally made some friends who also truly appreciated his music. From laying in the summer sun, tripping and listening to disc 3 of Decade - "His guitar is cutting into my *soul*" to firing up the Rust Never Sleeps video before class, nerding out as the "Bernard Shakey" credit came up - to the time I went and bought Fork in the Road the day it came out "There's a bailout coming but it's not for me~ it's for all those creeps watchin tickers on TV~" truly great, inspiring times. I've never been to a solo show of his, and it would certainly be monumental..

  15. my first ny concert experiences were a solo trans show at cobo in detroit... something happened and the show send to be cut short... next time was another leg where he was playing solo but had the whole trip with vj dan clear, building up to the shocking pinks... again, he got unhappy and there was no rockabilly set at the old pine knob...
but he had added a show in kalamazoo, where i was living.... got some decent fix thru boogie records, and that show was the best... he did the whole show, lots of songs that i was not familiar with by the shocking pinks, got to see the look in his eyes when he is really into it...

  16. Richard & anyone else looking for tickets on re-seller sites, if you wait until an hour or two before the show you can supposedly find seats for less than face value because the brokers need to unload the tickets & cut their losses. I'm told it works the same way for sporting events. I can't guarantee you'll get in but paying their inflated price only encourages them to continue. Good Luck

  17. Richard,
I have some nice seats for 7/12 and if I can't go happy to sell them to you at cost. Please email me at RaggedGlory99@gmail.com if interested. I don't know yet if they're available but happy to start a dialog. FWIW when Neil played solo in Boston in '14 tickets were available from other Rusties so keep the faith and dont be denied.
    Dan

  18. Stubhub is a reputable co. Ive used many times for SF Giants tix. Ive never been disappointed. The seller sets the price. much better than most resellers and their obvious gouging. Ive never heard of a rip off using their site.

I've seen neil over 50 times but never on My birthday. I'm hoping Neil will come a little closer to Rochester. buffalo performing arts would be great. Massey Hall would be even better.
