In a lengthy, detailed posting on the official facebook.com/NeilYoung page, Neil Young has announced that membership to the Archives will opens on June 1.

Memberships will be available at $1.99 a month, or $19.99 per year.

Neil writes:
I am here now, reaching out to you, but I wont be here for long, I’ll be there at NYA with my music, new and old. I’ll be on the Timeline. Every day, I will be choosing the song of the day. I will be there writing, ruminatIng and ramblIng. We have a newspaper ( The Times-Contrarian ) full of updates, projects and upcoming events related to my music.

  1. $19.99 / yr.
A Fair price, no longer "Rockin' in the FREE world".
    I'm in!

(Time fer other artists to follow Neil's lead, as opposed to griping about revenue NOT "Streaming" in).

  4. Judging from what ive seen so far i am in. I'm not sure exactly what to expect...will there be new releases in june or will we have to wait? Expecting the 80s Geffen stuff to be made available along with hopefully more videos etc. Looking forward to it all!

  7. I'm not thinking that much will change come June 1 except that there will be a $20 draft to my credit account. The change, the new content, the eventual playability of the Geffen and other currently unavailable content will not be there on day 1. The Vol2 era Archival disks will not be there on day 1. I doubt anything new will be there on day 1. But it will be there eventually. They are working on it. But the team is short handed and short on cash. NYA will get fully populated eventually and you just have to believe in that promise. After all, $20/year isn't a whole lot. You could pay that, and wait for another year for the Geffen deal to be sorted out or to get the cover tunes up there. It may still be worth it to you, if for no other reason than you get Movie Night and first crack at tickets for a summer tour. And you may get to hear Alchemy a day before it is released on CD.

I hope a whole bunch of new content gets unlocked when the pay wall goes up, but I'm not sure it will work that way. I think it just gets released when it is ready to be released. Like the CSNY stuff. It wasn't playable at the beginning but it just showed up one day.

I sort of think of $20/year as a subscription service for really good liner notes.

  8. @ Lone Red Rider

Neil could add ZERO of the new content you mention and it would Not matter One Iota to me.
    Here's Why:
Muddy Track limited release run during "Bernard Shakey" film fest in NYC cost me more than $20 fer 2 tix, was free on movie night.
If Neil streams just ONE of his future (sure to be) SOLD OUT shows, subscription will be MORE than worth it, WITHOUT the treasure trove that will surely follow, at Neil's will.
    gotta have faith, brotha!

  9. To Those Who are reading this for Neil,

Please tell him we are thrilled he's made the big shift and Created Neil Hub. We're grateful for our Archives Home, it gives us peace of mind.

Should y'all find yourself short on people power in ramping up and running Neil Land, there are lots of qualified Rusties who would gladly volunteer our time to help Neil realize his vision. It's all One Vista.

  10. Thank you, Neil Young. You have given me some amazing Art for 30 years (I didn't see you play live until 1988). I am in Awe of your catalogue! You have blown my mind in a special way for so long. Old Black cracks open the Heavens in your hands. Your efforts have not been in vain. We have heard you and we have loved your music, your creations. Remember that for anyone talking on the internet, there are 5 fold fans who just love you, no matter the trajectory of your albums. Thank you so much for being the most interesting, compelling artist I have followed (and I have followed Dylan obsessively). Alan in Seattle.
PS- Please come and see us in Seattle or the Pacific North West sometime on your tour, or whatever it is you are up to at this moment, Peace, appreciation, and enjoyment for 3 decades. My only regret is that I came to the party late, but I was born in '68,

  12. This is a great deal. I just spent more than $19.99 on "Roxy, Tonight's the Night Live" and that was a great deal. I wonder what younger artists who don't have nearly the catalogue or following that NY does will think of this. I think there are probably 10 or less artists ever who could follow this model, but it's a great model for those that can. Congrats to Neil and team for always being forward thinking and for trying and developing new ideas.

  13. I'm digging the archives so far, but if Neil truly wants to modernize, he needs to make nya mobile.

  15. LoneRedRider... what CSNY stuff are you referring to? There must be some cool stuff I haven’t found!!? Thanks

  16. My query about june 1st is this...will there be the Geffen era catalogue available or any unreleased stuff? My guess is yes.

  17. Wow! What a great deal! Thanks, Neil for being a believer in soul for the masses. 20 Bucks a year for all things Neil, Crazy Horse, et al, is a pittance! I'm forever grateful to Neil and his Lads & Lasses who perform and support everything that we see and hear. To have an online Archive of THE MUSIC from soup to nuts is a refuge in itself. Remembering the first time you heard the opening lick of a song like, Mr. Soul, OHIO, Broken Arrow, CRAZY HORSEs' DBTR, the "Storm" of LAH, For the Turnstiles (Neil & dearly missed Ben "Long Grain" Keith, Out of the Blue (into the Black), Cortez TK is in the Archive. Now, my wife Kelly (Queen of the County of Song) and I can open the Stream and Cast The NYA at our leisure.

Thanks Thrasher for being the lightning rod for us! And Thanks to Neil & The folks at NYA, for a lifetime's worth of a LIFE Well Lived for all of us to share! You'll never know how much this means to us! Peace!

  18. Do you really think this will play out? I'm thinking back to the BD live stuff etc. Not holding my breath on unreleased stuff and Neil will never maintain the 'song of the day' thing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think the idea for NYA site mustve come shortly after NYA vol1 was released, which is why BD live was dropped.

Also, no one really thinks that Neil Logs on everyday and chooses the song of the day himself, do they?

    It's the classic, pick-a-song-at-random-and-stick-it-on-a-virtual-post-it-note code .

Joking aside, I love NYA, will pay the very reasonable fee and can't wait for more.

    Cheers
    Ed

  20. If I counted correctly Neil has eleven unreleased albums listed and at least four films that haven’t been commercially available. The future looks great as I am certain all will eventually be released on vinyl and Blu Ray.

    Fingers crossed.

    Peace

  21. Glad to hear the subscription fee is reasonable. I'll keep buying physical copies of releases, but 5 cents a day is worth the convenience of also having access to that music online as well as some other goodies. I do hope that the subscription rate will be kept reasonable over time.

Did anyone notice in the FB post announcement that it was claimed the 5/5 show was streamed? I'm guessing that was a typo and they meant 5/1, which was the opener in Fresno. 5/5 was the first night in Bakersfield, which I would have loved to have seen streamed. If it was, I sure missed it.
