Thanks to a long time Neil fan and Thrasher's Wheat supporter (who lives in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia, Canada) the items above are being "re-gifted". The Neil Young owned Lionel railcars and concert drumsticks were acquired via the Juliens Auction in December in Los Angeles, where Neil cleaned out the barn and house at the ranch and auctioned off various items from old cars, to stage used harmonicas to new and used drumsticks.
So here is how to pickup some cool Neil Stuff. Thrasher's Wheat supporters will be eligible for items From The Collection of Neil Young To Thrasher's Wheat Supporters. We truly appreciate being able to do what we do here at TW, and we love being able to give something back in return.

Don't Be Denied!
I don't particularly see an appropriate place to bring up this tangential topic, but just worth noting: this past Saturday, April 14, was (would have been) the 100th birthday of Scott Young, Neil's dad. Somewhat of an overlooked player in deference to Mother Rassy, Scott actually seems to come up more often--or directly-- in songs: in "I am A Child", he is the man who understands, makes the rules, and is fun to have around. "Daddy Went Walkin'" sees him "pushing tall weeds right out of his way".
ReplyDeletePrairie Wind (the album) is speckled with intermittent lyrical references to Scott, who had recently passed at that time. Hard to believe it's been almost 13 years since PW was new. And we're still freely rambling far from home. Love and music are time-bent.
It is definitely worth noting what would be the 100th birthday of Scott Young. He was a hero to many young Canadians, starting in the fifties, particularly with his novel, Scrubs on Skates. When he hosted the Hot Stove Lounge in between periods on Hockey Night in Canada radio broadcasts, I was among the many who believed that he and his fellow hockey analysists were sitting around and spitting on an old rink shack woodstove. He was a prolific writer. His later newspaper columns of gentle life in Omeemee were must reads to people caught up in urban life. As a young kid, i had no idea Canadian literature could be so good. He continued to be a hero to me. If I were his talented son I too would immortalize him in song.
