Excitement Builds Over Neil Young's "Somewhere In Canada" Concert on December 1.

UPDATED:

There seems to be a fever frenzy building over obtaining tickets to Neil Young's "Somewhere In Canada" concert on December 1.

On scene reports are beginning to flood in on "the event of the season" about to occur in "a town in North Ontario". All eyes are now on Coronation Hall in Omemee, Ontario, Canada.

Tickets for this once in a lifetime “Neil comes home” acoustic concert appear to be available only on a friends and family basis. However, there are some ticket possibilities for the lucky Neil Young fan. (Don't be denied !!!)

  1. I have my hand in 5 contests. And then I also figured I should try and Kevin Bacon this shit and figure out my six generation connection to Neil. And I had luck, turns out I know Neil within three generations! I know a guy who knows a guy who knows Neil's brother. Anyway still not good enough.
Turns out I know a guy who knows a guy who turned down a free ticket offer. Oh well. Still got a couple chances. Miss Crusher and I have really been pooling our resources for this one.

  2. sorry, but " helpless" is not about Omemee, it's about Fort William. Omemee is not anywhere close to North Ontario. Fort William ( now Thunder Bay ) is smack-dab in the middle. Neil spent time here in 1965 /66... a local musician distinctly remembers being with neil one afternoon at the local YMCA where neil was staying... he was looking out the window at the planes flying over on the way to the airport ( the Y was right underneath the glide path)..., and he said " they look like big birds flying across the sky"... and Neil himself is on record as saying that Fort William is kind of a lost chapter in my life, but i grew a lot musically there... more than in winnipeg or toronto... " all my changes were there"

    1. Actually, he told T.R. Hosier that it was Omemee...as he wrote out the lyrics to 'Helpless'at Youngtown Museum.

    2. It's called poetic license.

  3. @Syscrusher - Good strategy. Good luck to you & Miss Crusher. Be sure to drop us a report on the results.

Funny, but we've heard from a bunch of folks we haven't heard from in a while recently. funny.

fyi - no invitation for TW ... but we weren't born in Ontario either, which seems to be a primary criteria for the invites.

    Don't be denied !

@ Unknown - thanks for geography lesson. you know, we think we knew this.
But somehow there is a town in the middle of Ontario just seems less poetic.

but -- more importantly -- will YOU be there?!?!!

  6. I did my best to enter the contests but was foiled. It would have been hard to get there due to work.... but I would have gone. I have had so much good fortune with Neil, I don't mind catching the Webcast this time. I will hopefully see Neil and the band anywhere in the Pacific North West this tour. Alan in Seattle

  8. All of the teachers at Scott Young Public School were offered tickets. It is shaping up to be a down home event. Nice.

  9. Can anyone shed some light on how you can watch this thing on CTV.ca on Friday night? I suspect you just log on to the website and click on a link, but my suspicions have foiled me before.

And he's definitely playing solo. Someone told me he was playing outside?

  14. Facebook and the Archives site, according to Neil's post yesterday.

Hard to believe it would be outside, temperature in Omemee will be 33F at showtime. Preparations have been ongoing at Coronation Hall.

  18. I am totally excited for the show! I can't wait to hear it all, as usual with this one. Extra rant: Storyline is a classic, you fools! I also Love the new album and a slew of others, 30 albums or so of my favorites. The last 20 years have been some of my very most treasured favorites. I love the past but treasure the present. Thanks Neil! As my old friend Allen Jacques used to say, " There's no accounting for taste." He was a great guy. A former Bathtub chemist, apparently. The Needle and the Damage Done, but he cleaned up for a few years and then endocarditis got him. Peace. Alan in Seattle

    1. Agreed Storytone Solo album is classic Neil. Love it. Too bad I came Home the other day to see my 4 year old son DJing in my turntable/ scratching side two of Solo Storytone! Could be his best album Side in some time. Oh well I'll need a replacement I guess.
And I have never listened to the orchestral version, don't need to, I know 'movie music' is anti-everything I love about Neil and music in general.

  19. To Stephen Hansen. The doors open at 7:30 Ontario Canada time so the show probably starts 30 - 60 minutes later (no idea what time that is in AU). I think you can see it at neilyoung.com
    Good Luck
