Here's a message from Neil Young:
Yesterday, when we finished our new album, we were playing it back for the first time. Lukas was on the floor of the studio signing hundreds of these vinyl LUKAS NELSON AND PROMISE OF THE REAL albums for you. A while a go, we heard this on the bus and it sounds amazing! As Neil Young’s 2017 self imposed touring sabbatical continues (updated here and here), we know that creativity never sleeps...

Neil Young + Promise of the Real's new song "Children of Destiny" -- featuring a full orchestra -- has made a bit of a splash this summer. So much so that Thrasher's Wheat counter response to Forbes Magazine's review of Neil Young's new song "Children of Destiny" merited a personal reply by the author David Alm. (More below)
The new song's "patriotic" video seems to have really hit a nerve with some -- as we noted on the 4th of July -- managing once again to both polarize his fan base and inflame critics.

I can't ell if he's talking about a new Neil album with POTR AND a new Lukas & POTR album or just a new Lukas & POTR album?
ReplyDeleteIt's the new Neil's album plus a reference to the POTR album in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteSo Tired
The new POTR was finished earlier than "yesterday," since it's being released Aug. 25. Neil's message talks about Lukas signing copies of that album while they were listening to their new Neil/POTR album for the first time.
ReplyDeleteNice that's what I was hoping.
ReplyDeleteThe Lukas stuff sounds great!

ReplyDeleteI question your taste. I have seen them live twice and they really do great music with Neil. I would rather see them play 5x before CSNY.
DeleteWell done!
ReplyDeleteJeepster4yourlove
ReplyDeleteHere Here. Will he ever get back with Crazy Horse before it is too late for any of us? Neil and Crazy horse included

ReplyDeleteGreat news, I'd take more work with PoTR over CSNY any day. Kiddie band???Excellent musicians who re-energised Neil live to deliver tours with one of his most extensive and varied setlist
ReplyDeleteBravo! Truth! Tell it! I concur. 😀
DeletePOTR is no Kiddie band. Learning your chops as young kid on the road with
ReplyDeleteWillie Nelson over the years is one hell
of a musical education
They play great on their own and with Neil
There new album is very good
Agreed! They are a great band. I can't wait for more live PotR/Neil shows! Twice so far, and what a great thing to be a part of! Searing intensity. I would also like to see Crazy Horse one more time. Psychedelic Pill was epic on tour.

ReplyDeleteThe Times, they are a'changin'
DeleteGo hurl somewhere else. I love Neil with PotR! You are so negative. Go bring Someone else down. You are missing some great Neil Young shows!
DeleteI am with Joseph.
ReplyDeleteI am alarmed by the haters on this site.
I am just grateful for the music.
I agree! Haters piss off. Go spill your bile somewhere else. I will enjoy whatever he serves up because I love his music, including all recent decades and years. I drove long distance from Seattle to Boise last year to see Neil with PotR. They did not disappoint at all. I have seen him 19x since '88, and I love what I see and hear from this band with our Hero. Let him shine. Don't wither... join the fun. Great years and tours are soon at hand.
Delete@ Keith - no need for alarm.
ReplyDeleteThe established pattern is consistent over th eyears that whenever Neil has a new album or tour or other effort be it LV, PONO, NYA or whatever, the doubters come out to whine about how Neil has changed. As if Neil sghould have just locked down on their favorite rea never to evelove.
As we said to Paul earlier, (after his 7th comment posted on TW today) there is lot of troubled and angry folks out there. And we wish them the peace that comes with a calm mind. We gently suggest rather than venting here about how Neil has done them wrong, that they channel all of this negative energy into something more productive and positive.
There are a lot of great insights to consider during a time of healing and release.
Before we can heal and release, we need to become aware. Please don't be dismayed or let anger bring you down. Remember, this is an opportunity to grow and transmute the "negative" into the positive. Change and evolution happens through growth.
It takes time to process and digest what is happening, but in the act of embracing it, we use our creative and healing powers to benefit ourselves and others. The healing that comes from a bitter practice ensures a sweet mind and heart later.
wishing everyone all of the best on your journeys, while the music sets your hearts free,
namaste
Beautiful. Thank you. Alan in Seattle

ReplyDeleteThrasher-
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with your post.
It is passive aggressive, condescending and anti-diversity of opinion.
ANYone who disagrees with you with passion is a hater???
Come on, Man...
I stand with Thrasher. Alan in Seattle
DeleteCSNY v POTR no competition, well at least up to 1974. Not convinced Lukas is good songwriter he's been given the platform by his surname & association with Neil. He's no Danny Whitten but I don't wanna talk about it. No vitriol from me, I just don't think the songs are very good.
ReplyDeleteHe is an incredible lead guitarist. He traps lightning in a bottle. See him live and then consider again.
DeleteHere we go again, there was some great discussions on this blog last week or so when Archives was announced. As soon as NY mentions finishing a new album, the blog goes down the shitter again. Such hate on a "fan" site.
ReplyDeleteWise words Thrasher, many thanks.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to new music and changes
Yes I enjoyed reading the comments on the last post. In this post enjoyment left when I got to the comments section. Not liking one of Neil's bands is one thing, this is something else.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to change the world. Be that change. Be the rain.
DeletePeace
P. S. A new album from Neil is reason to celebrate.
Peace. Can't we all just get along? Where are the groovy hippies? Neil Young is an Environmentalist Warrior and I love him for what he does, his music, his politics. F Monsanto. Etc.

ReplyDeleteHey, I am glad to seem wrong to you, cause you are a Freak. Get lost. Bragging about moving Neil's classic cars, pennies on the dollar... great. You are a connected wheeler dealer. So what. But I do share your love for Sequoias. I have 7 growing near my home. I will follow Neil Young. You push off and leave the negativity off this Neil Young fan site.
DeleteOff topic but since Lucas has read threads here in the past if he or his brother happens to read this I'm praying your dad's okay. Not because he's Willie Nelson but because he's your dad.
ReplyDeleteI too pray for Willie. PotR is a very special band and I am so grateful for the 2 shows with Neil I have seen so far. They are a top notch band with amazing talent on board. Lukas and Micah are 2 geniuses. Keep it coming. 😀

ReplyDelete@ Alan - thanks for the passion, as always. Just for future reference, we'll gently suggest that you try this method of responding to multiple commenters within a single comment.
ReplyDeleteHelps on bandwidth.
@ Peacelover Doc - Willie .... always on our minds ...
@ sergio - grazi!
@ To Whom It May Concern -- As we commented back in July, TW will not be sucked into your "divide and conquer" strategy.
ReplyDeleteWe -- and practically everyone else who comments here - can see this desperation for what it really is, so how about give it a rest?

ReplyDeleteIt's always an exciting time for me when
ReplyDeleteany Neil stuff becomes available. Time Fades Away is being officially released Friday on CD in the official release series
Vol 2 on Friday. Also Comes A Time, Rust Never Sleeps and Live Rust out on new vinyl. We all have this stuff but I will get
these reissues anyway. For younger Neil
fans who don't have the originals these are
great finds. And September 8th can't come soon enough for the release of Hitchiker
And Neil has just finished a new album with
POTR. Great time to be a Neil Young fan
@ TOM - Looking fwd to that beer one day.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, so what is exactly that pisses you off about a Neil music blog? We're just separating the wheat from the chaff here. Serious question.
@ Joseph - agree. And it's always been a great time to be a Neil Young fan ... yesterday, today & tomorrow ... alchemy
Thrash-
ReplyDeleteWe'll chat on the rail!
