If not mistaken, I believe there has been some speak about that Uncle Neil doesn't write good songs anymore. That's a bunch of jibberish. This one stands with any of them.
ReplyDeleteNeil's lyrics since about 2002 generally haven't retained the same subtlety and eloquency of his earlier work: they sound like they haven't come quite as easily to him as they did in the past. For instance, compare the stunning lyrics of Goin' Home with anything on Prairie Wind or Living With War, which sound uninspired in comparison.
ReplyDeleteBut some of the more latter-day songs are still very good, just in a different way. All of Greendale is a great example, as are Ramada Inn and Walk Like A Giant.
I too like Hole In The Sky: it's better (and more succinct) than anything on Fork In The Road, which it sounds like an outtake from. I wonder if it will turn up on an album or not?
