A question that we heard an awful lot last year was whether we will ever see anymore Buffalo Springfield concerts?
Once the on again and off again 2012 Buffalo Springfield tour was canceled, it seemed to become increasingly unlikely.
And -- according to Richie Furay recently -- "Your guess is as good as mine" on tour possibilities.
From an interview on WBAI-FM’s “Morning Dew” Radio Show with Buffalo Springfield's Richie Furay via Jambands.com when asked about any potential Buffalo Springfield Tour/Dates in 2012:
I doubt in 2012 that there will be, but I’m never gonna say never.
Listen, the reunion that we did last year…came out of nowhere, it was nowhere on my radar …when I got the call from Neil I was really surprised. Then when we got together and we did the Bridge School Concert…it was so much fun, that we decided “let’s go on, let’s do a few more shows.”
I think everybody had it planned in their mind, ‘cause I was actually told…”We’re doing this 30 day tour.”, and you know, Neil is just fickle, and even though it boils down to all three of us making a decision…without the three of us, really there can’t be anything that would even resemble a Buffalo Springfield…I gotta say that we probably lost a little bit of our momentum; that isn’t to say it couldn’t be picked up again, but I certainly don’t see anything happening this year.
(Thanks Brian!)

And as for Crazy Horse reunion tours?
Well -- as Richie Furay would say -- your guess is as good as ours...
I was shocked to hear BS was playing the Bridge. I went to both nights and they actually managed to recapture the spirit of the Springfield.
ReplyDeleteAssumed it was a one off, but then they did the mini tour. Added some great surprises to the setlist, and an electric edge. From the field recordings these were were great shows and Neil was having fun.
Still, the 30 show tour never really sounded like Neil. An extended nostalgia tour.
But I have to say, I would have liked to seen one more show. Electric. Longer. Adding some stuff like Down to the Wire that never got any exercise.
Understand the sudden end, expected it. Glad to see the Horse out of the barn.
But I'd like to see those guys again, give it a shot....
I bet it will happen but probably a while from now and at a time nobody expects it.
ReplyDelete... Reminds me of the aborted Still's - Young Tour when Neil decided he'would rather head back home and saddle up the Horse!
ReplyDeleteDo have the same thoughts as Raincheck: "Still, the 30 show tour never really sounded like Neil. An extended nostalgia tour."
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Beach Boys will get us in 2012 but definitively not the Buffalo Springfield. What I did hear from those field recordings is that the acoustic Bridge performances were way better then the electric sets played later. Don't know why, maybe the electric set sounded too much like sixties nostalgia?
But, hey, God only knows what will happen in 2012... is Neil still recording with the Horse, there's no tour news or a release date for a new album. So, I wouldn't be surprise to hear about a CSNY tour pretty soon....
It's funny how Neil is still wearing the BS jacket. As long as I see that jacket, I'm thinking the tour will go on at some point. Saw the show in Oakland and it was great!!
ReplyDeleteGood point tmd3q!
ReplyDeleteNeil keeps wearing the Springfield jacket!
Hope is in the jacket.
I don't think because Neil wears a jacket we can expect the tour to go on. Neil has had a sign on the back of his tour bus that said Buffalo Springfield for many years and that doesn't mean he is going to tour. My belief is it will never happen again. Its true Neil form. I don't think the muse is there for a tour. Is done...next.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anybody think what Neil think. Who knows and why speculate. As the moving finger having writ, moves on. So the moving Neil, having played, moves on. I just take it as it comes...and hope that it keeps coming.

@ Andrew - "I just take it as it comes...and hope that it keeps coming."
ReplyDeleteexactly. we feel the same way. thanks
by now we really should expect the unexpected...I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Shocking Pinks reunion (jk)
ReplyDeleteThrasher:
ReplyDelete...And I'm still waiting to hear Neil sing "Do I Have To Come Right Out and Say it?" (since 1967).
But what will be...will be.
I'm just sitting here waiting for the next gift from Neil...thankful for whatever will come my way.

Not much of surprise that a BS reunion was left flapping in the wind. Personally, I'd donate a kidney to see a show. But if it can't happen, maybe we could just get some HQ audio of the Bridge shows? That would be splendid.
ReplyDeleteIn the meantime, I'll settle for Richie hooking up with Jim Messina and Rusty Young for some Poco action.
Well, it seems very unlikely that Neil will take a hundred children on tour with the Horse... Is that right or not? He is not going to do that... is he?

The Buffalo Springfield Reunion Appears To Be Over
ReplyDeleteConclusion: The Buffalo Springfield reunion ain't over till it's over. Neil is recording with Crazy Horse but he is not going on tour with them. He is not going to tour at all in the coming months. Remember he was writing a book... he wants to finish the LincVolt movie... maybe some work on Archives has to be done... Neil will stay at the ranch this summer. Hope he will have some good times with the Horse every full moon. By the time the summer is over who knows were his mind is at that time. He can still decide to go on the road with the Buffalo Springfield... or CSNY or even with Crazy Horse

ReplyDeleteTypical Neil - just use people and throwing them away. No regard for audience, friends or colleagues. If the 'muse' is telling him to record with children's choirs instead of Stephen and Richie, he ought to send it in for repairs. Sad to see a talented old man who refuses to learn life's lessons.
ReplyDeleteBring on BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD!
ReplyDelete"Typical Neil - just use people and throwing them away."
ReplyDeleteThat's wrong, but even if true (and it isn't), you have to accept that it's always the option open to the musician who's the lead guitarist, the songwriter, the singer, and the cat who plays the harmonica and piano. He's got the creativity, the energy, and the cash to do what he pleases. And when they all turn round and tell him to fuck off because they think he used them, he can go out there solo and acoustic, which people love, and call "the real Neil".
That's an awful lot of fallback options, even before he picks up the phone to call Lanois, or Nashville, or Booker T and the MGs, or Nils...
Crazy Horse will tour. There's no $ in making records,cd's etc. $ is in the touring and these guys didnt come out of virtual retirement just to record some songs they won't make a dime from.
ReplyDeleteTour is comming.
I'm kinda sad, but I have to agree with Karate.... I've been a Neil fan since he recorded Sugar Mountain three doors down from my Grandparent's house in Ann Arbor, 1968....I love the talent, but the man is challenged in the way he treats his band mates....Stephen (who has had his own demons in the way he treats other musician friends) and Richie may just say "Walk on bro" when Neil comes knocking just cause his muses hits him again. It's one thing if it's a dream, but another thing entirely if you've made a verbal commitment....
