Here's something special.
From time to time, we get little heart warming anecdotes which we quite enjoy hearing about and this is one we'd like to share from James Houlahan in Santa Barbara, CA.
James played "Looking Forward" by Neil Young, at his brothers' wedding of Robin Steele and Matt Houlahan. It's a video shot on his cousin's phone so while not the highest of quality, it captures a nice moment in a family wedding.
My brother Nick is a big Neil fan too and he played (from the CD) "Good To See You" at his wedding (when the bride entered to join him at the altar). Then, with Nick and Jenny (his bride) together at the altar, they played "Silver & Gold" during a candle-lighting ceremony to remember Jenny's sister and father who have unfortunately passed on. It was an emotional moment. Thanks James! Sounds like a nice time and great tribute.
Later at the reception, I also based my toast of the bride and groom on the lyrics to "Good To See You"...I talked about how love is a kind of recognition, a kind of knowing, etc. I think it worked pretty well.
My other brother Matt (identical twin to Nick) asked me to play a song at his ceremony, and I chose "Looking Forward." It's such a positive song, short but sweet...one of the greatest Neil songs in my book. It went down very well!

Much more heart and soul then McCready!
ReplyDeleteBravo for such a great cover of one of Neils' finest!
This is what makes Neils' music so cool. It filters rays of hope into our lives and we shine it right back!
Sliver & Gold was our wedding song in 05'. I'm the fanatic but my wife picked it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
Bravo James! Santa Barbara is my hometown!!
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear you play this song!
(BTW, sad to hear about Pat Milliken)
This is a great cover version, very well done. Somebody send this video to McCready - You can really learn a lot that way.
ReplyDeleteJust got married a week ago and our first dance was Like A Hurricane. Just like ShittyHorse, the wife picked it. How could I argue?
