I'm pretty sure he could live handsomely on royalties is that what it's called , for RITFW alone .
ReplyDeleteWanna Keep On “Rock’n In The Free World”?
ReplyDelete"25th Amendment now"!
Following President Trump's October 5, 2026, campaign rally in Grand Island, Nebraska—where he spoke about the ongoing conflict with Iran and stated, "Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay".
In France, there are violent protests taking place right now over the lack of their government’s support.
FOR EDUCATION!
But no one seems to care about a mentally deranged U.S. president?
WTF?
🤬
@ WSJ1 - fair point ... except ...
ReplyDeleteActually, Neil shares co-writer credit with Poncho now. Poncho came up with iconic title phrase originally.
It seems after awhile Poncho managed to negotiate co-authorship and began sharing royalties, etc. Thus, Poncho presumably is "living handsomely", as well.
And might folks recall exactly how the song title came about?
Thrasher: yeah, 1989 the Soviet show was cancelled & Poncho remarked “Guess we’ll have to keep rockn the Free World”. Or sumthin’ such?
DeletePretty close to current cancel culture events of today
“Keep on Rock’n in the FORMERLY Free World”
DeleteRight HW.
ReplyDeleteThanks for playing NY+CH trivia!
The Greedy Hand now is offering a re-issue of "Christmas at the Ranch", also on vinyl. Never listened to that one (being not much of a Christmas person, too much commercial kitsch). But maybe listening to unknown J.J. Cale or a serious take on "Greensleeves" by Neil Young would make me to order this. Any comments?
ReplyDeleteWhaaat? Sold out? Man, missed that boat.
DeleteI had a cd copy that I have not been able to locate (another casualty of the “wrecked room”…
But I recall the recording fondly. Aside from the Very Special Christmas series (Special Olympics benefit), I’m not much of a fan of a commercial Christmas music either.
But @ The Ranch didn’t “feel” commercial?
Dang it!
FWIW Checking back at the Greedy Hand it doesn't say "Sold out", neither for the vinyl nor for the CD. As the vinyl does not show the original Vapor label but a new one with a NYA logo on it I believe this to be a re-release for the upcoming holiday season. As for marketing that ties in with a postponed (?) release of "Hit 39" as Ben Keith did play a key role in both incarnations of the Harvesters. But what do I know...
ReplyDeletePretty sure these are region specific views:
Deletehttps://neilyoung.warnerrecords.com/collections/music
Shows the vinyl as SOLD OUT. The cd version is still available. No mention of “Hit 39”.
Can anyone else confirm?
Also, FWIW, I don’t think Christmas At The Ranch has ever been released in the U.S. as a vinyl…
DeleteTo my recollect was only ever available on cd.
Which brings up another issue.
Is this just another digitally recorded cd pressed on vinyl?
Ordered the vinyl. As the first publication of this record uner the title "Seven Gates" was in 1994 it may well be that this is a digital source product. There is a Greedy Hand Online store in the UK which sells Vinyl records made in Germany. Thanks to the Brexit idiocy I will have to pay custom fees for this order because Warners did not set up an EU store yet. The Greedy Hand Store that is linked to my NYA account indeed is the European one, so the vinyl might be sold out in North America.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes. Seven Gates. My cd collection is alphabetized, so I’ll give it another look see..
ReplyDeleteI think you will enjoy this one!
Btw, Neil also releases digital masters on vinyl (Eldorado) but he & Warner bros, Greedy hand, etc. are usually transparent when it comes to the audio source.
I guess it’s worth paying a lil’ more for the cover art, readable liner notes, etc…but other than that, cd on vinyl does nothing for me.
It’s a good album too. Johnny Cash is on it yrgbais
