This was one terrific show. It was a benefit for The Painted Turtle https://www.thepaintedturtle.org/ and held on their campground. It provides free camp experiences for kids with serious medical needs. It was founded by Paul Newman and I believe Daryl Hannah is an active current supporter. The concert also benefits The Bridge School. This year the artists were Lily Meola, John Mayer, and Stephen Stills with Neil Young. I attended the benefit concert back in 2019 and the one that was held yesterday. Both were special experiences. Also unique during my time as a Rustie because I encountered exactly zero people I know from the Neil Young concert going gang I know.
The setlist from Tom Hambleton's absolutely-essential-for-Neil-fans site sugarmtn.org will be at the end of this message.
This was a Stills/Young band performance, a four-piece band featuring Corey McCormick on bass and vocals and Anthony Logerfo on drums. Other artists from previously in the day filled in here and there. It was great to see Neil so happy to be on-stage performing. The first surprise of theu day was the Stills penned classic Hung Upside Down. Not slick but still great to hear. There was a spirited attempt at the CSN song Helplessly Hoping. It's kind of hard to not try to hear Crosby/Nash on this song but this band was out there giving us their version. I gotta admit, Stills' vocals are a bit shakey, but I respect them for extending the effort. It was a real treat to hear Neil perform Field Of Opportunity. His voice was strong, his energy was high. (I know from mysugarmtn that it was the 5th time I've watched Neil play that tune.) He played some popular classics but the most memorable tunes of the night were the previously mentioned Field Of Opportunity, a wonderful version of Stills' Bluebird, and an encore performance of Vampire Blues as a 3-piece band (Stills stepped aside.) Being present at this show is a memory I will always cherish.

ReplyDeleteUntil this moment, no speculation. But thanks for putting it out there.
DeleteWe say no one Robbie.
Given there really has been no proper Tribute to Crosby, it would raise tough questions.
