Neil Young's lost album SUMMER SONGS has been found, per a recent Neil Young Archives posting.

SUMMER SONGS -- an unknown "lost album" -- has been re-discovered and will be included in Archives Vol. 3.  From  circa 1987, Neil writes that it contains “original performances” of later songs with “new and unheard verses”.

The Last of His Kind, For the Love of Man, American Dream, Name of Love, Someday, One of These Days, Hangin’ on a Limb and Wrecking Ball are the original eight performances. The words of these originals are significantly different from their subsequent master album releases in many cases. Several completely new and unheard verses are found in the songs of this collection.

  1. I wonder how much more can be added to Archive Volume 3 before it explodes under the pressure (or the weight ). If Neil keeps finding more stuff to add, that can only push the finished product farther away from a release. He’s the boss, so only he knows what’s best. I guess we wait and see what unfolds…. should be interesting to say the least.

I’m definitely looking forward to ‘Barn’.

    Peace 🙏

  2. Most people would call this a bonus Demos collection not a lost album! I hope it’s really good though!

  3. This is an exciting piece of news.

I never knew for sure that For the Love of Man dated back to the 80s, but the thought did occur to me when PP was released.

  4. Is there a live stream album launch I don't know about?

  5. Q Steve
No, you did not miss a stream album. NYA announced the discovery of "Summer Songs" a collection of 8 songs apparently recorded in 1987 between the end of the NYCH summer tour in Europa and the continued NYCH tour in the US in that same year. The interesting thing is, that these songs appeared on four different (much) later albums: Freedom, Harvest Moon, American Dream, Psychedlic Pill. Apparently these are early orginals with different verses, too.

  6. Two old rockers:
Neil looks good for his age.
Ralph looks great for his age.
    Sorry Neil.
    Rust never sleeps.

  7. The official trailer for Barn is online now.
    To be watched at: https://youtu.be/pP9rZKBV7RY
That's a beautiful place where the Barn is located. And it's not as high up in the mountains where the other record was made apparently more relaxing thnan the Mountaintop.

  8. ... made, apparently more relaxing than the Mountaintop. In real life I am a senior teacher for German literature. These typos make me cringe.

  9. @ Dan - if NYA#3 explodes, then it'll be one of the most glorious of all rust experiences.

@ mrtew - good point. we'll try and reflect sentiment going fwd.

@ Steve L - right. and we'll probably learn even more about these early tracks w/ the different verses and their evolutions .

@ Dionys - thanks for official trailer link. Curious. Uploaded by Abramorama Inc.? Usually NYA account handles? Is this that new operation that purchased NY's catalog???

@ Grey Rider - aging with dignity or not is still better than not aging at all!
