these first episodes to be a soft launch of pilot tests as we shake down various
technical issues. As we get the kinks worked out, we'll be bringing in

Thrasher, it’s great to see that the new podcast is truckin’ along. I just had a listen to the latest Concert of the Moment. The delight of this one can be found in the way Neil ‘n’ Co. run counter to expectations by playing a warmup gig across town while Jarmusch’s film screened for the cinema elites, heh heh. At least Neil stuck around king enough to hear the director’s opening remarks. And then for the show, Crazy Horse opted to run through a bunch of Mirrorball(!) tunes instead of the recent material they’d maybe tired of over the course of the preceding year. Of course, this is only the first set, so many be they do play Loose Change and This Town. I won’t be cheating and peeking at setlist.fm! I’m The Ocean was a special treat; that song has such inspired pages of lyrics and a ripping melody. And an early electric version of Razor Love was beautiful. Nothing predictable about that first Trocadero set. And a slowed down Rockin In The Free World makes for an easier singalong!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic show at the Trocadero. I had this one on cassette tape already but it is a treat to have it on NYA. This was a very worthy show to include. Hard Luck Stories is fantastic. And I am a huge fan of "I'm the Ocean!" so this is a special treat. This will helps make up for the lack of that song on the live Neil Young / Pearl Jam movie in the works.

I completely agree Alan, ‘I’m The Ocean’ is just an awesome song and one of my favorite songs on that album. And it sounds absolutely amazing on vinyl.

Throw Your Hatred Down is another classic. To think Trump was a fan of Neil Young is nuts. Apparently he listened but could not hear. Neil’s themes of Peace, fighting Racism, and Environmental activism had zero effect on the sociopath. Now Joe Manchin stands in the way of a proper fight against Global Warming. “Aw shucks. I hear you Alan : We tried, but as long as there are Democrats and Republicans running this country this would will be “capsized in excess” long before we can turn things around. They are the same animal and nobody seems to recognize it…. Oh well…. We tried.

ReplyDelete"I'm the Ocean" is terrifying and beautiful. It runs like a buzz saw through consciousness and culture. The first three songs on Mirror Ball are a trilogy, orbiting around love and hate, kindness and violence, hope and desperation. By the time we hit I'm the Ocean, the narrator is grinding down into the essences. Nothing is dated, these songs are timeless.
