Replacement DVDs of "Way Down In The Rust Bucket" by Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse are finally starting to arrive and early reports are that it "sounds heavenly!!!!!" (Thanks Jonathan!)
As we reported here back in March, (see "RUST BUCKET" DVD Audio Issues: Neil Young Owns It and Steps Up) Neil Young is stepping up on the issue regarding the DVD audio on ‘Way Down in the Rust Bucket’.
As background, a TW reader commented back in February on the audio concerns on the DVD versus the CD, LP or hi-res files. The TW commenter -- Mr. Harm -- then followed up directly with NYA with a Letter to Editor to which Neil Young personally responds.
Neil Young's response is noteworthy in its transparency, honesty, accountability, and integrity.
Shortly thereafter the discovery of flaws, came word on Members Page | T-C | NYA that replacement DVDs are shipping to everyone who ordered either the stand-alone DVD or the Deluxe Box Sets from the Greedy Hand Store, as well as to those who purchased the Deluxe Box sets from other retailers and signed up for the replacement DVDs.
Now, according to NYA Members Page, the replacement DVDs are shipping this week. All of these DVDs will ship from U.S. warehouse to worldwide customers.

* This is a completely new mix to my ears - this is NOT the same audio mix as the CD or vinyl - on those the bass is much more up front than on this new DVD mix - not complaining just what I am hearing...after Harm caught the flaw & Neil agreed back in February & March, I stopped watching/listening to the DVD
* The editing in between songs seems different to me...will need to dive deeper to get into details...I love Billy's MC role!

ReplyDeleteThe “Under Construction” version of Cowgirl has to be one of my all time top cuts from the Horse. Not for the casual fan! “Has your band begin to rust,” Neil grins. The mix is a huge improvement from the first edition release. If it’s a new one altogether, even better! The laid back Ragged Glory tunes here absent from Weld make this record essential for me: Over and Over, Days That Used To Be, Country Home. Why did they never play White Line but like twice in the 70s??

ReplyDeleteInteresting to think that Neil played white line with promise of the real in a bunch of other songs originally recorded by Crazy Horse but he never played any of those songs with Crazy Horse in a live setting.
