UPDATE: Thrasher's Wheat Radio 2.0 Podcasts - NOW STREAMING  - Hosted by WBKM.org

This year in 2021, we here at Thrasher's Wheat are celebrating our 25th anniversary.

It has been a long, long road since 1996 and we plan to make 2021 a year of celebration. A celebration maybe not so much of our little blog website or even of Neil Young. No, a celebration of this wonderful little community we joined back in 1993 that eventually became known as "The force of Rust".

The Rust community is -- without a shred of doubt -- the tightest and coolest group of music fans running in history... online or offline. (We'd be happy to have that discussion separately below in comments.)

To say that the power of Rust changed our lives would be a vast over under statement. That said, to some degree, it became our mantra to stay "rustie" at all times. To be the rust is to know the rust. And rusties understand that statement.

Or as we sometimes say, "It's a rustie thing and you wouldn't understand".

What many may not realize, is that Thrasher's Wheat continues to be the longest continuously running website in the history of the Internet dedicated to a single topic, operating under the same "original management" and "original mission".

Period. Full stop.

Longer than eBay, Amazon, Google, Facebook, etc. Even before New York Times or Washington Post websites were launched, or about the same time. And we welcome any challenge to the above statement and will gladly correct. :)

At this point, we could run down an amazing amount of TW post highlights. The concert reviews. The photos. The videos. The escasties and agonies. And so on.

But at the moment, we just want to share the joy of Neil and the Rust community.

So here's what we're thinking. Back in 2016 -- thanks to our dear friend Geoff, -- we came up with a Thrasher's Wheat 20th Anniversary t-shirt with which to celebrate.

But now in honor of Thrasher's Wheat Celebrates 25th Anniversary: 1996 - 2021, we will be embarking on a new and exciting adventure.

  1. Well it's a public holiday today here in the UK so what better way to celebrate than raising a glass of a beverage of your choice to family Thrasher and this wonderful site.

  3. Congratulations Thrasher, and thanks for all that you do! I'm a late arrival to the party, I didn't go online until 2011, but my "Neil life" is vastly, vastly enriched by your work. Like Hambone I'm UK based and I'm raising a strong ale (chocolate stout 6%) to you right now, cheers!

  10. Congratulations Thrashers Wheat!!!!

This is ‘THE PLACE’ for all of us Rusties to connect and share our love of all things Neil. Thank you for your dedication and tenacity to make it 25 years. Along with NYA, you are the only two places I visit on the web every single day. This community is filled with knowledge, wisdom, kindness, and passion, and I’m grateful to be a small part of it. I hope you guys have a wonderful day celebrating your grand achievement and know that many of us are celebrating with you.

Thank you so much for all you do, and for the sacrifices you have to make in order for everyone to share our admiration for Neil and each other.

    Peace 🙏

  11. Dear Thrasher, Happy 25th Anniversary! Has it already been (almost) 5 years since I wore that at NY /PotR at Boise?! Things are moving pretty fast nowadays. Only the pile of Treasure at hand from Neil Young can counter the dizzying speed of the months flying by. And the treasures that await us, stretched out ahead like tracks for a train. I am so glad to have Thrasher’s Wheat for my soul food on this journey. Your efforts have enriched the Neil Experience for us astronomically, cosmically. Many Thanks, my friend. Long live Thrasher / Thrashette, long live Neil Young, family, friends, and all y’all!

  12. Congratulations from my end, too. To have provided for a forum for 25 years and continue to do so, where people from around the world congregate at a digital campfire without shouting insults and where civil disagreement doesn't exclude from participation is no small achievement in these times.

This year's Oktoberfest has been called off today for pandemic reasons, so at this late hour it's a cup of tea instead raised in your honor in München.

  13. @Old Blank and Thrashers - Mine's an ale called Good Old Boy (caramel malted barley 4%) made a few miles away by the local West Berkshire brewery where, thanks to the owners, I am a smallscale shareholder. Current dividend - a dozen free bottles a month delivered to the door. Homegrown's alright with me.

  14. Happy 25th anniversary Thrasher.

I have been an avid reader, fan of your blog and occasional poster over the years and remember the time you questioned your own work here because of negative posters. I am glad you were able to get past that hiccup and kept blogging in the free world.

Here is to another 25 years.

  17. Happy 25th anniversary, Thrasher. Hard to believe it's been five years since your 20th!!

Agree with all the other comments here. There aren't many sites that I frequent
... and this is the ONLY one I check daily.

You rise above all the negativity and ugly cynicism of other blogs and websites.

Through the dark days of 2020 (and when things were weird during the Living with War era) you've been a shining beacon of light. If you ever doubt yourself, don't. Your efforts help sustain us.

Peace and love. Here's to sharing live music (safely) in the future. I hope you do truly keep blogging until the power runs out.

  24. Dear Thrasher and Thrasherette: Congratulations on you 25th anniversary! Thanks for the tremendous effort you put into Thrashers Wheat -- it is the go to place for all neil news.

I hope that the 25th anniversary T has a version that isn't quite so busy as the 20th, with both tie dye and logo. The latter would better publicize TW since it would be easier to read. Thanks again!

Keep on rockin' in the free world! dan w

    It is most appreciated.

We can not begin to tell you how excited we are to share here very soon a major announcement in our next chapter of Thrasher's Wheat, as we continue our mission to separate the wheat from the chaff.

  28. Hi Thrasher and Thrashette,
    What a milestone!
    So far, mission accomplished.
This site is the one that I check almost every day in my life. In case I forget, I have the RSS feed in one mailbox, announcement in another and finally the twitter posts :-)

This site is very informative and I learn a lot everyday, though I thought that I was a hard-die fan.

Thank you also to all for the insightful comments provided.
A million times, I was disagreeing with some comments/opinions, and a million times I was agreeing with others.
Each time, I said to myself that one of these days I'm gonna sit down and write a long post to all the good friends I've read on this site.

    Happy birthday!

  30. Congratulations! That is huge! I am so glad you have been able to continue to produce and maintain a steady stream of Neil content. Or keep up with it for that matter. You are the only reason I can stay remotely up to date on Neil stuff.

Whenever I get back your way, I owe you a beer. It has been too long!

  31. Thrasher, also congrats from my side for all you've done in the past. Glad I found you. I will always remember your visit over here. Like others wrote before me - this is the only website I regularly frequent, on an almost daily basis. Hope you keep your spirit up to continue what you're doing.

  35. 25th Anniversary! Worthy of a special shirt. Not a T-shirt. But a Levi Denim Long sleeve type of shirt with a special Thrasher's Wheat rendering on the front pocket, and the back. They come in the light blue, white, and black. It will be more pricey than a T-shirt, for sure, but something to wear and not put in a drawer with all those other so flattering Ts. Don't we all have enough T-shirts? Ordering up front and paying up front can pay for the run.
