A 2 minute preview trailer of ‘Mountaintop Sessions’, a documentary film about the making of COLORADO, by Neil Young & Crazy Horse is now streaming on Neil Young Archives.
As noted earlier, ‘Mountaintop Sessions’ will be released in over 100 theaters world-wide the week the album COLORADO debuts, in October. Along with the preview trailer, is an essay by Bill Bentley on the Neil Young & Crazy Horse studio recording process which is a must read for both content and style.
Bentley writes that: "Neil Young is a born filmmaker. The same sounds he hears in his head he sees with his eyes. He wants to share with those who want to join his journey." Bentley continues to capture the essence of Neil & The Horse: "It's like a 360-degree exposure to what Young's music really is: a life force that sustains not only him but also his audience."

Daily Hearse Theater videos and live shows! England tonight was amazing! I saw it once before. Very well played and sung!
Yes, I still want my Blu Ray Archives 2 & 3... & 4! But to see Neil play solo in England up close and personal. Well, it reminds me of the 6 Old Princeton Landing shows I was able to enjoy in person. A stage 6” high, Neil not more than 8’ away! I was behind one person. My definitions of heaven on Earth. I enjoy new vids daily and listen to classic albums. The new Tuscaloosa ‘73 is very good! I have not yet bought the CD. Will do. Thanks Neil!
But NYA membership, along with ticket presage access, is a great deal! I get to listen to POTR’s and Nils Lofgren’s new albums too. High resolution! And Great Neil Young access, my hero for 30 years.

I have a old VHS tape of the Complex Sessions I recorded off TV and eventually was able to transfer it to DVD, but after I watched Change Your Mind yesterday on Hearse Theatre I realize just how bad the picture was on the VHS. That whole thing deserves an official Blu Ray release with HD audio to go with the amazing picture. I was dumbstruck by the picture, unfortunately I only got to watch it on my phone so the sound was not great.
I’ll pay Neil any amount for Blu Ray’s of the London show, Complex Sessions, Trunk Show, and everything else he’s been holding on to. To be able to experience this stuff on a large screen and Atmos sound would be such a beautiful thing. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.
I’ve preordered Colorado on vinyl but holding off on the CD until November to get Mountaintop.

Archives is brilliant value but £45 for Colorado on vinyl in UK is way over the top. Most doubles are £25 and that's still a rip off. It's too rich for me but I know I will end up getting it. Despite this gripe I still feel it's such a privilege to think Neil still has the passion after all this time. Live he is always amazing. UK tour please.

ReplyDeleteToday on Hearse Theatre: Keep on Rocking in the Free World, from Saturday Night Live. Not only the most epic performance of the series but in my opinion, the best live version of the song. I get goosebumps every time I see it. Just amazing.

It's an incredible performance, thanks for the heads up about the stream Dan. The 1988-1991 period of Neil's work remains my favourite, Neil rising to the occasion big time, and this performance is right up there near the top. 'No More' from the same night is equally powerful in it's own way.

From "Shakey": The band managed to record a couple of tracks, most notably a powerhouse version of a new song entitled “Fuckin’ Up.” But the chemistry wasn’t there. “Everybody had a fuckin’ weird attitude, and we were lucky to get what we got,” said a glum (Niko) Bolas. “It just wasn’t supposed to happen, I guess. It was too good for Neil. Too correct.”
ReplyDeleteI think an Archives release covering 1989 (including Eldorado, the Freedom outtakes, studio and live recordings with the SNL band and live recordings from the acoustic tour) would be one of the most exciting of the series.

@ Babbo B : I remember reading that, and the “too good for Neil, too correct” kind of sums it up. That said, those SNL performances were extremely powerful on every level.

This particular period in Neil’s career was a intense creative era. Explosive even.
