    Sound on the left hand side of the stage was nothing but awful and a lot of Neil's solos went missing. Should have sorted that beforehand.

      I agree. Soundman all over the place. I really don’t get why they bother with these big out door gigs in London. You can hear people talk over the music. Still good though. Neil is a force of nature. Great setlist. Sorry I love Bob Dylan’s records. But live, I don’t get it. Nothing was going to top neil.

      Same on the right hand side. Mix was fine, but couldn't hear the solos. It was better after the acoustic section and the encorse was absolutely fine.
      Incidentally, watched Dylan from the very back and the sound was excellent. Crystal clear. Shoulda watched NY from there.

    Thanks for the reports. Bummer on sound quality.

    We're hearing Bob's set has wrapped up. No Bob-Neil jams. No overt Elliot acknowledgments either, unless a song was played in his memory?

    Based on Ireland Live Stream NYA posting, it seems there's some sort of Elliot tribute / remembrance planned in the context of mentioning Bob.

    So maybe Sunday is the day???

    well, whatever. it looked like a beautiful day in London for an outdoor concert!

    Not sure about the comment on sound. I was in the central area near the large screen and sound was fine for Neil. Stood in the same area for the start of Bob and found his vocals rather muddy by comparison.

    Real contrast between the two - though this is from the perspective of seeing Dylan for the first time. Bob seemed static, almost hidden behind a piano all evening and the band was pretty much one tempo most of the time. I have to ask any Dylan fans out there is this usual, 'cause I was expecting something a little more varied. At times Bob seemed like he was channelling some of Brian Wilson's latest appearances - not quite there.

    Neil & POTR were the complete opposite - real energy right from the start and for me it was a near perfect festival set - no meandering solos loosing the audience, a minimum of breaks before launching into the next song and the band visibly loving every minute. Scotsman was right - POTR matured since I saw them at the O2 a few years back and they are nailing almost every tune now.

    I know most of us here are always looking for that rare nugget and deep cut in a set, but sometimes there is something deeply validating about being in a crowd of 30,000 people all singing HoG, Old Man and RITFW and thinking - yes we are following the right artist and this is the proof.

    And we got a Winterlong and Walk On, which can't be bad.

    And during the latter a highlight was the on-screen signer rocking his way through "some get stoned, some great strange" - a visual feast which I found oddly enhanced the experience.

    Anyway it's 1:30am here in the UK and I'll stop burbling, turn in and get fresh for tomorrow's livestream.

    It was a great set by Neil and Promise of the Real. The crowd clearly loved it. Very energetic and concise, and for Neil, a pretty crowd pleasing selection.
    I just want to say that I had a general admission ticket and I intended to head to the front to be as close as possible to the stage but found a barrier about 200 yards from the stage, which separated the higher price ticket holders in a sealed off enclosure in front of the stage. I've seen Neil at Hyde Park in 2009 and 2014 and other outdoor events over the years and this was the first time I'd encountered this. I knew that there was something like this in the works but the map of the area that came up when buying tickets wasn't clear. I'm kicking myself for not having paid more attention at the time.
    Also, there were a couple of pylons with the PA's but they couldn't cope with the strong breeze and in between them, the sound was poor.
    This is the effect of corporatism and sponsorship, (notwithstanding Neil's losing the Barclaycard connection), of too many interests taking a slice at the expense of the fans. Let's hope it doesn't continue that way.
    It felt like we were Prisoners of Rock and Roll, but not in a good way.

    Art is pretty much spot on with his analysis, although I'm even more critical of the Hyde Park venue and organizers. To say the atmosphere was sterile is an understatement. If this is the future of the high profile A list concert experience you can leave me out. Barriers were set up 200 metres from the stage manned by uniformed G4s security staff. I arrived at 2pm and positioned myself at the 9 o'clock position stage left against the said barriers. Neil and POTR took to the stage 4 hours later. Meanwhile, many corporate champagne quaffing corporate types wearing wristbands entered the front section that had been relatively empty up until that point. They had no, or little, interest in the music. Many were obviously not Neil fans and were in attendance purely for the kudos. Ticket prices in this front section were double the price of the standard entry rear section where myself and the vast majority of the genuine Neil fans were packed into. Many people in close proximity to me were complaining bitterly to the security who were very sympathetic to our situation. One female member of security staff told me that in her experience the division of the paying public into hierarchical sections in this way was a relatively new phenomenon for an outdoor music event. The sound from my position stage left was terrible, Neil and the band appeared like dots in the far distance. There was no water provided by security. I saw one person near me faint due to heat stroke/lack of water. We were packed in like animals. The general atmosphere was soulless, corporate and uncomfortable and one that I never want to experience again. I also felt that Neil's song list was uninspiring and the band lackluster. I long to see Neil and Crazy Horse perform with new material to freshen up what, in my view, have become stale performances of late. My advice to fans, is to avoid Hyde Park like the plague.

    sounds like it was rough out there standing on the pitch. the Barclay's sponsorship always seemed pretty ominous from the outset. the doubters proved prophetic, sadly.

    we can only hope that today in Ireland, that true rusties can storm the rail, while "champagne quaffing corporate types wearing wristbands" are relegated to their proper station in life ...

    Thrasher, Barclaycard sponsored the last time Neil (with Crazy Horse) played Hyde Park a few years ago. There were no complaints from Neil then. I was in attendance. There was none of the barrier nonsense. I cannot believe that none of the artists who played Hyde Park on Friday, were oblivious to the barrier situation. By not standing up and voicing concerns about this situation they are in effect complicit if a precedent happens to be set, which I suspect it will. Does this kind of hierarchical division of the audience for high profile gigs in a field happen in the States? It's pure corporate greed and Neil's Barclaycard protest was clearly a cleverly crafted PR stunt.
