  1. Same set through Cortez, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere instead of Walk On, Hurricane and Mansiom flipped, Losing End as the encore instead of Roll Another Number.

  3. First Losing End since 2004. Last time it was final song of a show? 1990....

  4. Just watched a clip of Fuckin Up from tonight's show. To my ears, much more intense, loud, raunchy. Nils sounded much higher in the mix, wonderful version. That's how it sounded on the video, interested in hearing from folks who were there.

There could be a lot of fun times upcoming for all of us. And man, they look really cool on stage. Ahhh, The Horse.

  5. Man. Was that the shit or what?

  6. very excited to be going today May 3. I'll be in the Ragged Glory T and SF Giants cap. I just hope they have some energy left

  7. Enough with the crazy horse* nonsense. It's crazy horse, just a different line up. Like in 2014 when billy wasn't there, like in 75 when poncho joined, like on loose, like on the first crazy horse album. Line up changes, band name doesn't. The * is disrespectful to nils in my opinion, and to the other three guys in the band. They wouldn't call it crazy horse if it didn't feel like it.

  8. Right on Peter D! I was there. It was the Horse :-) Excitment in not knowing what may happen day to day

  9. Peter D: Either Thrasher is putting the asterisk there to express some uncharacteristic "disrespect" to Nils Lofrgren, or he's simply noting that this is a different version of the band to the Crazy Horse we've known for the last 43 years (not to be disrespectful to Nils, but respectful to Poncho). I'm guessing it is probably the latter. Just a hunch.

Neil himself makes the same distinction, calling the band NYCH or a horse of a "different colour". Is this also disrespectful?

As for respect, when Billy couldn't make the 2014 tour, both Poncho and Neil subsequently said it was still a good band but "not really Crazy Horse". That's respect.

I think these new gigs have sounded great so far and hope they will keep it going beyond the current run. With Nils or Poncho, two of the best sidemen Neil Young has ever had.

  10. @Scotsman: Neil himself called it Crazy Horse from the stage, and he didn't add an asterisk! ;) Two great shows down, three more to go...the Horse is rockin' and a rollin'. @Richard Siciliano: Yes they were tighter last night, and are already a well oiled machine. On a final note, the wailing squalls of sound thundering from Neils guitar during Hurricane left me in tears...both nights! PS - Fucking Up = heavy duty...wow.

  11. Sounded like the Horse to me, so it was the Horse to me.

The same can not be said about POTR, and I absolutely loved the 5 shows I saw Neil do with them.

Nils' guitar tone is spot on, there's no bongos or wind chimes, and Billy is playing big fat notes without pogoing around the stage.

Once again, no disrespect for POTR because those shows were awesome and Neil fed/feeds on their energy... but they don't sound like the Horse and NYCH does.

Jealous of everyone who is going tonight and this weekend!

  12. @ Scotsman- thanks, you got it. This is about respecting the Horse and there is no dis-respect intended or implied. truth in advertising. With all of the fake news accusations going around, long time readers know integrity is paramount to TW mission.

May the Horse be with you.
    peace

  13. Personally I don't really care about this "name debate" (both Poncho and Nils are fantastic sidemen and part of Crazy Horse), but the idea that Thrasher adding an asterisk is somehow "disrespectful" is absurd.

This is a GREAT band that is nevertheless a different lineup to the one we've heard for 43 years now, and worthy of its own distinction.

The "horse of a different colour" description is perfect.

  14. It would be more accurate to call them the Santa Monica Fliers. But who cares as long as they keep playing

  15. As a Fresno area resident, it was fascinating to see so many people from all over the country and world. I only saw a handful of local people that I recognized. It still seems like a dream to have Neil play Fresno like it was Santa Cruz. I never thought I would ever hear "Fresno Rocks!" come out of his mouth. The music scene here is changing for the good. I expect that more will play the Wornor after this concert. It was very accommodating. $5 beer and $2 water was fan friendly. Frankly, it reminded me of the concerts I saw in the 70's. There was even the pungent aroma of ganja in the air. I've seen Neil more than 30 times. I'm happy to say this was one of, if not the, best ones. Great show. Thanks to all of you that came to visit. I know it's not much, but now it's cool.

  23. Listening to 5/1 show right now....rockin' it is by any name.
    Thr*sher - don't take no crap brother!

  24. NYCH is just (obviously) shorthand for the band name. Let's not overthink this.. the shows have been amazing with Neil on fire. The chemistry with CH is second to none.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well it maybe still be Crazy Horse but my blood boils when I see the constant ads for the Fleetwood Mac tour without Lindsay Buckingham. That's fraud, especially the ones that still have his picture with the band! That's even worse than Pink Floyd without Roger Waters. I sure wish I was in CA for these shows!

  26. What happened During Cortez ?
He yelled at someone and then kicked something and brought it to an early end....
    Anyone have any insight ?
