A livestream will be available for the Tuesday, May 1st concert of NYCH (Neil Young + Crazy Horse*). See Neil Young Archives for livestream details.

As shown previously, the marqee at Warnor Theater, Fresno, CA now announces "NYCH".

With new dates being added in Fresno and Bakersfield, it looks like the official band name for the combination of members of Neil Young's bandmates from Crazy Horse and the Santa Monica Flyers is "NYCH".

So whether the band is "Horse of a Different Color" (per Neil), or "Santa Monica Horses", or "Crazy Flyers", it's all one band. (See VOTE: Neil Young's Upcoming Gigs - "Name That Band" Poll below.) These unprecedented "raw, open rehearsal" sessions are rustie fans dream come true.

  7. I was informed that the show will begin at 8 p.m. Pacific Time. That will be 11 p.m. for me since the time zone where I reside is Eastern Time (ET). I've heard that there's an opening act, although I don't know who this will be.

  9. There's no charge to view the live streaming. It's being shown via the Neil Young Archives (NYA) online. Everything is free until some time in June when you'll have to pay a small monthly subscription fee to listen to select material. But other stuff will remain free for others who visit the site who aren't subscribers.
I found out about the opening act. It will be Jonathan Richman, featuring Tommy Larkins on drums.

  10. I live in Clovis CA, which is next to Fresno. I have seen to 20+ Bridge School Concerts and a dozen other Neil shows, including Desert Trip. I don’t know if Neil has every played Fresno other than with CSNY Living With War tour. Why did he chose Fresno?

I’m not sure what’s happening here musically. Paul McCartney started his last tour in Fresno and didn’t play SF or LA. Neil Diamond started his world tour here. Garth Brooks plays 5 sold out shows over two days here. Foo Gighters played a sold out show. I’ve lived here 35 years and it’s been a virtual music desert. Why now? Why this? Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy as hell. I’m just baffled. I will be there Wednesday night.

  11. Fresno would be heaven, if I could see Neil tonight and tomorrow (which I am) and also buy legalized green (which I can not).

I suppose 50% of the equation is better than nothing!

  12. Seriously! Flew here from Austin and then I realized that the Central Valley is unfun.

I'm sure I'll do just fine with a couple beers over the next couple of nights.

  13. So that would be what time in Europe?

It's 6:20am here in Finland - I guess no one else is seeing the stream yet either?

  31. Guess tonight's not the night. 11:30 PM where I'm at in Buffalo, NY and not even a clue on NYA where the stream might be found. All is calm and quiet over there. My nocturnal days have long ago passed so I'll see if I can catch this show another time. Good luck everyone. Welcome to Miami Beach where everything is cheaper than it looks.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Very frustrating... I've been prone to cutting Neil lots of slack over the years but this... I don't know... maybe I'm just getting "old". I've got a meeting in the early tomorrow morning and I feel like he and his team are just wasting our time at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Be careful. There is a bogus scam link on YouTube claiming to be the site to stream the concert on Funwraith dot com. Do not go to this website. It will ask you for a credit card number to verify membership.
It's a scam. It is NOT the site to watch the live feed.

Meanwhile, I'm still trying to find the actual link.

  39. Okay... 9pm PDT (1am Atlantic) it is then. We'll see.

  44. It's funny... Many of us are sitting here going through the same thing. I feel like IF we do see this show tonight, it'll all have been worth it and will make us smile in recollection. But if it doesn't happen or we don't get to see it, it'll be crushing and make some of us bitter. Too sensitive?

    ReplyDelete
  45. I had to go our to the main page and click again on the little post it note to go to the stream. Staying on and refreshing the Contrarian article didn't work.

  50. Morning all 5:45am in the UK. Got there about 30 minutes late, but it's all happening, perhaps with a slight video / audio sync issue. Neil wearing Nils' Artful Dodger-style top hat.

There was a great shot Nils glancing at a setlist & running offstage for the right guitar. Hope this doesn't distract him too much from his own UK tour that starts in 2 weeks time....

  55. I have had great luck! I started at 9pm and have caught the whole thing so far. Great song selection. Big Time, Scattered, Winterlong, World on a String, Cinnamon Girl, Cortez! I am loving the new Roxy album and they tip the hat here. Anyone know where Poncho is? Alan in Seattle.

  56. Did anybody catch the message Neil had on his shirt? I couldn't decipher it. Please help if you can!

  61. Great live stream! Great set list! They sounded amazing. What a treat to see so many Rusted friends in the audience having such a great time. Thanks to Neil Young for giving fans a chance to see this live streamed. The audio was outstanding...the camera, a bit shakey in spots. :-) but close up and personal. Missed Poncho, but Nils was great...especially on steel guitar.

  62. "The man in the black hat" seems to have been replaced by someone who looks and sounds about 15 years younger.

  63. Above all I'm a huge fan of the "hardcore" Poncho line-up of Crazy Horse, and with any luck he will be back soon. But Nils is a great musician and a perfect sideman for Neil on many songs. Until Poncho returns he is the best person to be there, and even then I hope Nils will continue playing with Neil in future.

And it's fantastic to see Billy back, when a few years ago it was unclear if he would be returning to the stage at all.

  64. Playing with Crazy Horse is risky. At their best, they are without equal. But there genuinely is no safety net. If Neil plays badly or stops playing, it falls apart. His guitar and vocals are front and center. Nowhere to hide.

This effect is amplified when the gig is the first in years, there's been no rehearsal, and it's being broadcast live on the internet.

Contrary to Neil's comments recently about "fearlessness", I bet the band last night had some nerves (even after the herbal "libations"). Of course they did. Excitement, anticipation, but not fearlessness. Because it could all fall apart.

And so they rise to the occasion; with focus and urgency and commitment. What other option is there? With Crazy Horse, there are either sparks or fireworks, but either way, magic happens. Alchemy. A deceptively "basic" band comes together to become more than the sum of their parts.

Fear isn't eliminated; that would be boring. Instead, it's transcended.

That's rock "n" roll, in a nutshell; that's what we line up to pay for; and that's what happened last night. All that's missing is some exciting new songs. For now. Doubtless they will turn up when they are ready, or more likely even before then.

  65. Haven't seen Neil that vibrant looking for years. That was his greatest set list off all time. So varied..lots of eras and albums represented. Big Time to open is perfect..highlight for me was a firey Cortez and the first three tunes..heck, it was perfect for this Crazy Horse fanatic! The band hasn't sounded this good for a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Drove about 7 hours there and back from L.A., and it was totally worth it. Some nice gems in the set and great energy. The last time I saw Neil was with POTR in Pomona at the Fox Theater. That nearly 3 hour show blew me away, and I thought, he'll probably never top that. But, boy was I wrong. How he still pulls it off at his age is a wonder. We should all have that much mojo at 72.

That 15 minute version of Cortez was really captivating. The buildup was like some sort of slow molasses and then the heat got turned up and it got all bubbly hot, stringy, sticky, and sweet (the venue was genuinely very warm inside -- I think that's what Neil was complaining about and they subsequently cut some of the stage lights). And then it started to congeal again as it wound down. It was something to behold.

Interesting that there were no songs from RNS. But 3 from Ragged Glory and 2 each from Broken Arrow, Zuma, and TTN.

Had a short chat before the set started with the guy who was walking around in the suit and hat with the camera man. Said he was from the Archives, but didn't give his name.

Seriously considering heading to Bakersfield on Saturday. Shocked to see that there are still tix available.

    ReplyDelete
  67. anyone has a link for the "Captured" stream ?

    ReplyDelete
  68. I didn't catch the last five songs. I lost the connection and was beat so I headed to bed. But what I heard was awesome. I noticed Neil had to nudge Billy to sing sometimes.

    I thought Ralph sounded phenomenal!

  69. I have 2 extra tickets 2nd row center (orchestra PIT) for 5/6 Bakersfield. Can transfer the tickets (per the ticketfly) or happy to meet at will call before the show. Best Neil tickets I've had in 3+ decades, excited to connect and share w fellow Rusties. Interested? Shoot me an email at raggedglory99@gmail.com, will honor first come first served here. Don't be Denied!

  70. i was never able to get the stream to start once the link actually appeared in the post-it.
gave up @ 1 am EDT. hoping to see/hear a replay soon?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Seems like tonight we're likely to get a different set, if only because the "regulars" like Love & Only Love, Powderfinger, etc that seem to have become staples weren't played last night.

I'm hoping for the miracle of Change Your Mind and Sample & Hold, but I won't hold my breath!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Cortez the Killer as linked in the Rolling Stone article was awesome! Man!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I don't think the Livestream was available in Canada? I stayed up to 1:15 EST with no luck....anyone else ?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Purple Words - Livestream was fine in the UK so I don't see why Canada would be excluded. May be some issue with your ISP making the connection?

Last night was pretty special. The latter half from Too Far Gone to Mansion on the Hill was almost my wish list set. I loved the "classic" mid-70s CH sound making a return - I've found the rather muddy elongated jams of recent years a little tiring. Maybe having Nils pulled in late in the day sharpened things up.

Scotsman - you can have Nils as much as you like, but not between 14th and 31st May cause we're owed that Nils UK tour. Bruce had him for nigh on 2 years and we want him back. At least he'll have a week off between tours :)

  75. I watched the whole thing in Guelph Ontario. It was absolutely amazing. I hope it gets put up on the archives for those that missed it.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The Horse is back!!! Fantastic to see and hear, I've listened to about 6 songs from the show that have posted on YouTube, everything sounds great. Maybe not as crunchy without Poncho, but perfectly fine to my ears. And the big warhorses like "Cortez" and "Hurricane" were terrific.

Hope you guys down there maybe get a "Sedan Delivery", "DBTR" or even a "Don't Be Denied" in the next couple of nights!
