Race fans attending the Aug. 5 season finale in the 2017 Thursday Thunder Legends Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway will
hear a live performance by rock and folk-music legend Neil Young.
Similar to its annual NASCAR weekend, Atlanta Motor Speedway will present the pre-race musical entertainment with Young at no additional cost.
The special entertainment is the latest announcement of several planned promotions celebrating the final event in this year’s 20th Anniversary season of Thursday Thunder and follows last week’s news of a record-breaking giant TV giveaway planned for the same night.
Thursday Thunder fans will also get to witness championship eating when an Alaskan pizza-eating champion performs his talent at the 2017 finale.
No further details are available at this time.
OK...this seems out of character???
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't fit his demographics???
ReplyDeleteMust be more to this than meets the eye???
ReplyDeleteWhat's he up to now???
He's cashing a check -- and it seems like there was no "sabbatical" after all...
ReplyDeleteThis is not happening. They are just playing Neil on their big sound system. Notice “hear” & “sound" &“listen" in misleading press release.
ReplyDeleteYes, it seems to be a misleading statement, as it's unclear what "live performance of Neil" they'll be "hearing."
ReplyDeleteI saw the statement a few days ago and for the first few minutes thought it was indeed a live concert by Neil, but upon re-reading, it seemed like they were being intentionally vague and misleading.
They mention the speaker system so that everyone throughout the grandstands, etc. will be able to hear. I don't know, maybe they'll be playing "Live Rust" or dare I say "Earth" but again, it's definitely unclear and misleading. Or Maybe it's a debut of some new Neil recording, but if so, I'd think they'd mention that as part of the uniqueness.
I also suppose it's a remote possibility they'll be simulcasting a truly live performance of Neil debuting something he's working on (or just finished), but the odds of that happening seem very low to non-existent.
So yes, if I had to guess I'd say they'll be blaring some old Neil music through the speakers while the race fans are drinking and eating and looking forward to something else entirely....
"Take my advice
don't listen to me"
Thanks to all.
ReplyDeleteWe found this to be highly suspect as well and we're concerned that this was fake news. But we kept getting mail about why we hadn't posted or whether we had more details.
So sorry if this is bogus.
As we say, we report... you decide.
Use disCERNment... as always.

Yeah , something just doesn't seem right about this, for a man who is pioneering electric powered cars, bit strange. If they play Neil's music at the show, no doubt they'll have to "Cough Up The Bucks "
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's a real live concert. But I wonder if they need permission for commercial use of a live album or whatever in that race and for advertising with Neil's name. Elliot obviously did not force them to stop it. Strange...
ReplyDeleteJust and FYI that I (Scott Bernstein, editor of JamBase) reached out to Neil's reps to confirm this was happening and was told "Absolutely untrue!"
ReplyDeleteThanks Scott.
ReplyDeleteFake news from MAN.
Pathetic.
Apologies to all.
TW will again revisit our fact checking department.
Well, to quote from an old friend of his:
ReplyDelete"something's happening here
what it is ain't exactly clear"
I guess we'll find out soon enough, but I wouldn't call this fake news by the "mainstream media" based on where it was reported and what it was reporting on.
I reserve the "fake news" nonsense for the political media, but believe the only "real" fake news comes from Trump.
Okay, I'm off my soap box, so getting back to the topic, if I had to guess what was going to happen, my guess would be that they'll be playing "Live Rust" over the sound system..
"Take my advice
don't listen to me"
Thanks TD.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be up on our soapbox soon on this.
This one has hurt us deeply. But we will be working harder than ever to right this wrong.
Here's the article I initially saw last week from the Atlanta Motor Speedway:
ReplyDeleteRace fans attending the Saturday, Aug. 5 season finale in the 2017 Thursday Thunder Legends Series presented by Papa John's Pizza will hear a live performance by rock and folk-music legend Neil Young.
Similar to its annual NASCAR weekend, AMS will present pre-race musical entertainment with Young's unmistakable sound, at no additional cost. Thanks to its 100,000-watt, 42-speaker, high-performance sound system, fans will be able to listen to the music from every seat in the grandstands and even on the concourse.
The special entertainment is the latest announcement of several planned promotions celebrating the final event in this year's 20th Anniversary season of Thursday Thunder and follows last week's "unbelievable" news of a record-breaking giant TV giveaway planned for the same night. Further very "real" announcements regarding the unique Saturday-night event will be made in the coming weeks.
The Thursday Thunder Legends Series presented by Papa John's Pizza continues with Week 9 action on the quarter-mile Thunder Ring this Saturday, July 29, before wrapping up the 2017 season with the Aug. 5 finale.
Grandstand spectator tickets for the affordable, family-friendly racing series cost just $5, with children ages 5 and younger are admitted free. Gates open at 6 p.m., and feature races begin just after 7:30 p.m.
For more information, contact the Atlanta Motor Speedway ticket office at (770) 946-4211, (877) 9-AMS-TIX or visit www.atlantamotorspeedway.com.
I call this more misleading marketing than fake news. They should issue a retraction, and correction if playing recording of a
ReplyDeleteNeil concert. We have to use disCERNment when using the FN moniker or else it's definition will be diluted and lose impact. Just PT Barnum tactics at the race track.
LIVE MUSIC IS BETTER - BUMPER STICKERS SHOULD BE ISSUED
ReplyDeleteIn the Grand Scheme of things, this is not too big of a deal. One fan sounded like they saw Neil selling out from this bogus story. I am not so quick to give up on Neil. He keeps putting out great art and great live shows. I am so happy to have been able to see him so many times. I hope there are trunks of memories still to come. I don't see him playing a speedway gig, with all the gas being burned and all that. Perhaps a few confederate flag bumper stickers on the race fans cars? Not the right scene down south at the raceway for our hero to emerge from sabbatical. Follow the muse Neil. I wonder if the movie with Darryl Hannah and Neil will be any good. I remain optimistic but I am really in it for the music. And the politics of Don Grungio. I like the modern Neil Young and his Environmental Warrior stance. Long May You Run, Neil. Thrasher. Don't sweat the fake news post. Your record is still far better than Mainstream American Media. There is far more Real News on your site than on the flipping "News." Thanks for that.
