1. I did not know there was a Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
ReplyDelete2. Had I known, I would have assumed that Neil had been inducted long ago.
3. I did a search and discovered that in 2010, seven years before Neil's induction, Edward B. Moogk, Guy Latraverse, Robert Charlebois and Rush were inducted.
3. 😆😆😆
ReplyDeleteWell, with Trump President, Neil opted for 'Canadianship'......

I would hope Joni Mitchell is in there but Neil should have been the first one inducted. Bruce Cockburn unquestionably should be in there as well.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite 2 Canadian Songwriters together in one night. I hope they play some music together. I remember a quote from Bruce Cockburn when asked what LP he would want on a deserted island and he answered "Ragged Glory". And I remember Eddie Van-Halen was asked what it was like to be the best guitar player and he answered "I don't know, go ask Bruce Cockburn".
ReplyDeleteJust a cursory search, but it looks like Neil is just about the last significant songwriter to be inducted:
ReplyDeletePaul Anka
Joni Mitchell
Anne Murray
Robbie Robertson
Rush
Burton Cummings
Randy Bachman
Leonard Cohen
Gordon Lightfoot
Admittedly, many of these are technically better songwriters than Neil, but it does seem odd they're just getting around to him...

Paul Anka ??????????
ReplyDeleteSeriously ????????
Well, this little news item seems to have stirred up a bit of amusement.
ReplyDeleteLet's face it, Neil news is very, very slow these days and we may just consider taking our own sabbatical as well. Although, we've always dreamed of some opportunity to release the 100's of archived TW posts awaiting publication...
Anyways, Neil finally making it into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. This should not be a surprise to anyone, but the way these sorts of awards usually work is that you have to accept the honor in person. So we would just speculate that Neil has been on the short list for years but due to scheduling etc the timing wasn't right.
Now w/ the sabbatical, neil has more scheduling flexibility for this sort of event.
just our very humble opinion, fwiw...
Love Neil, but just to be a little snarky, Gordon Lightfoot is truly Canada's songwriter laureate and has been in for years :) Not bad company to be in at all!
ReplyDeleteWell raeleigh, I Googled Canada's Songwriter Laureate, and the only name that came up was: Leonard Cohen
ReplyDeleteIn my mind, I actually think Joni is the best writer, but as far as greatest artist, it's a no brainer...
