Well, check out APHORISTIC ALBUM REVIEWS for a rundown on Neil Young Album Reviews.
Once there, you will find concise album reviews of pop and rock music from the 1960s onward, written by a New Zealand music fan.
Neil Young is recognised as one of the rock music’s premium solo artists. His voice, high and creakily off-key, can be an acquired taste, and his work is often primitive, especially when accompanied by Crazy Horse. His lyrics impulsively veer from supporting Reagan in the 1980s to suggesting the impeachment of George W Bush. A lot of Young’s work falls into three main templates; abrasive guitar rock like ‘Cortez The Killer’, gentle folk, or country.Respectable, indeed Graham. Thanks for the update!
Most of what Young recorded in the 1960s and 1970s in worth hearing, but he’s so prolific that his discography is intimidatingly large. I’ve covered all of his studio albums through to 1982’s Trans, but I’ve only reviewed select albums after that point. I’ve listed Neil Young’s albums of new material up to 2016 below and marked the ones I’ve covered in bold. If I was to go further into his discography, Silver and Gold, Le Noise, and Psychedelic Pill are the records I’m most interested in, but I feel like covering 27 Neil Young albums is a respectable effort.

I treasure Neil's modern catalogue await his next album with zeal only an acolyte of Don Grungio would understand. The man's last decade is quite satisfying to THIS fervent fan. I have more favorite albums in the last decade than I do in the 80's for certain. I first saw him on the Blue Notes tour, which was excellent. Freedom was incredible and it was on to a lifetime of Neil Young seeking behavior. I saw him twice on the last tour and he fucking KILLED IT with Promise of the Real. And I got to hear the new songs with the band and it was epic. Who ever dared to play a harmonica THAT distorted, record, and release it? Only Neil Young. His Environmental Activism is Inspiring and Impressive. His artistic output has been largely excellent, worthy of material I wish to see played live in this life and the next. Thank the Gods for Neil Young, our favorite Artist, Searing and following the full moon to the Muse, again to feel her influence and, against all odds, continue to create vital work of epic accomplishment. Neil Young has provided me with a lifetime of compelling Rock and Roll (etc.). I am so glad I am here to experience the final achievements of the most interesting all time rock and roll God on the face of the Earth, standing with Dylan in the Halls of Rock and Roll's all time vital Kingpins. To discount his last decade or 15 years would be an obscene oversight. Some Neil Young fans get so stuck on one album, band, era that they risk cheating themselves of his present Glory. A Mortal Man, yes, walking the Earth, talking trash to Corporation Welfare, Ranting against Oil Pipelines on Native Watershed, calling the Government on its War Addiction. I hope for another 20 albums from the man, or 40. Archives 2 Blu Ray, come on and exist! Alan in Seattle
ReplyDeleteVery cool site... thanks for the link. But for some reason I don't agree completely with all his reviews. Weird!
