Love To Burn, Separate Ways, Barstool Blues & The Days That Used to Be: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Summer 2014
"Love To Burn" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse at Mönchengladbach, Germany on July 25, 2014.
"Late one night
I was walking in the valley of hearts
The spirit came to me
And said 'you've got a move to start
You've gotta take the first step
You've gotta crawl to be tall'
And then she told me somethin',
That I'll never forget
You got love to burn
You better take a chance on love
You better let your guard down
You better take a chance,
.... a chance on love."
"Love To Burn" by Neil Young
"Separate Ways" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse at Liverpool, England on July 13, 2014
"I won't apologize
The light shone from in your eyes
It isn't gone,
It will soon come back again.
Though we go our separate ways
Lookin' for better days
And I'm feeling better now,
a lot more alive somehow,
my heart is open
and my love comes pouring through.""
"Separate Ways" by Neil Young
"Barstool Blues" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse at Mönchengladbach, Germany on July 25, 2014.
"I have seen you in the movies and in those magazines at night
I saw you on the barstool when you held that glass so tight
And I saw you in my nightmares, but I'll see you in my dreams
And I might live a thousand years before I know what that means"
"Barstool Blues" by Neil Young
"Days That Used to Be" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse at The Marquee Cork Ireland on July 10, 2014
"People say don't rock the boat,
Let things go their own way
Ideas that once seemed so right
Now have gotten hard to say
I wish that I could talk to you,
And that you could talk to me
'Cos there's very few of us left my friend
From the days that used to be"
"Days That Used to Be" by Neil Young
Pegi Young "I Don't Want To Talk About It" (Danny Whitten) at her show in Anaheim, California on 22 November 2011
"I can tell by your eyes
That you've probably been cryin' forever
And the stars in the sky don't mean nothin' to you
They're a mirror
I don't wanna talk about it, how you broke my heart
If I stay here just a little bit longer
If I stay here won't you listen to my heart
Oh my heart?"
"I Don't Want To Talk About It" by Danny Whitten

ReplyDeleteHoping the Bridge School Benefits continue. I have a feeling they will.
ReplyDeleteSo sad. So sad.
ReplyDeleteThanks for keeping it classy, Thrasher. (And by the way, the Lokeren LTB is really intense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32Ity7pVivQ)
ReplyDeleteAnybody paying attention to set lists and lyrics saw this coming:
ReplyDeleteRamada Inn (Going South) is too close to the bone
Changes
If you could read my mind
Barstool blues
Only love can break your heart
:-( so sad!
ReplyDeleteI smell a CSN@Y reunion in the future.$$$
ReplyDeleteShame. Although we might get something akin to Bob's Blood On The Tracks.
ReplyDeleteOh...
ReplyDeleteThis must have been on Neil's mind at Lokeren... I wondered at the time about the changed/additional lyrics that he repeated over and over, sometimes at a whisper, to Love to Burn, about sometimes having to find love outside of the house, and needing to take the step and leave...
Sad indeed, but hope Neil, Pegi, and the family have the strength to get through this draining process as intact as they can.
I can hear her soft voice callin'
ReplyDeletecalling me to bring my guitar home...

Sorry Neil, sorry Peg. Here's hoping for you both the best.
this just can't be true...can it?
ReplyDeleteThere is some talk that it's not the same Neil Young...but either way it is so not our business.
ReplyDeleteIn his recent bio he suggests some issues with his brain/ memory' etc to the point of revealing brain scan results.
ReplyDeleteMay be isn't true ? Pegi & Neil are so smiling and shining when they sing or dance together...Nevertheless, the exceptional longevity of life has that result : it becomes difficult to stay with the same person an entire life. And you what do you think about that ?
ReplyDeleteThis makes me sad. I love Neil and Pegi. :(
ReplyDeleteSuch sad news about Neil and Pegi. They seemed so happy together. At the Bridge Concert last year they looked so happy like the perfect couple. No one knows what is going through people's minds though. Hoping things will be ok in the future for them and their family.
ReplyDelete@kahunasunset: hoping to get something out of Neil's mysery, eh? That's bad taste, man. By the way, he already 'got' us tons of Neil Young end-of-realtionship songs - @anon, you're dead right about Ramada Inn, great song, tremendously moving - so what more do you want? Give the guy a break.
ReplyDeleteWow, shocked and saddened ... obviously not our business but hard to ignore what Neil's going through ... a few thoughts -- what ever happens they had a great run together ... raised some wonderful kids, overcame Ben's (and Zeke's) disability with grace from which the Bridge School emerged, hard to find many comparable unions in Rock n' Roll ... and you never know what's going on within a relationship, maybe it gets patched up ... either way their longevity and relative normalcy within the crazy show biz world stands apart ... looking back now (and listening to) the Carnegie Hall shows of early 2014 virtually every song has a new significance and you could quote something from each of them ... someone mentioned 'Changes' wow, looked at the lyrics with fresh eyes now and its jarring ... or even, for example, 'goin back':
ReplyDeleteused to build these buildings
I used to walk next to you
Their shadows tore us apart
And now we do what we do
Those shows were so deeply moving was this why?
Also the Euro set lists seemed so vastly different than last year's PP tour with many more obscurities ... singing 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' and saying "her" instead of "him" ... and singing it in both the acoustic sets then the electric sets ...
whatever is or isn't going on wishing them the best and hoping for the best possible outcome ...
