A report that Pearl Jam covered "Needle and the Damage Done" by Neil Young at Wiener Stadthalle, Wien, Austria, on June 25, 2014.
Hi Thrasher,Thanks Growl! Have a great summer on the road.
Just got back to my hotel in Vienna having seen Pearl Jam play the Stadthalle.
I went in the hope of hearing Rocking In the Free World. Instead, Eddie openned the first encore with a solo rendition of Needle and the Damage Done. He introduced the song along the following lines:
"Our uncle will be in town next month. We haven't seen him for a while. If you come to see Uncle Neil I think you will have fun. He may not play this next song so, I'll play it just to make sure you hear it this summer."
As a bonus, we were also treated to an energetic version of Fuckin Up. That will keep me going until Uncle Neil celebrates the full moon in Hyde Park in a few weeks.

ReplyDeleteNot to steer the conversation back to CSNY '74 ( I'd rather talk about upcoming CH tour, Thrasher can we post our dream CH set list?), but saw an interesting interview piece on the Wall Street Journal site re: the upcoming box set ... always impresses me how years later the band (even Nash) acknowledges that Neil had it right:
ReplyDeleteNash:
"Neil was disgusted by the excess. There were even pillows embroidered with Joni's tour logo as well as china and luggage. Hey, we didn't ask for all that. This soured Neil a bit and, in retrospect, he was right."
