▶ Phoebe Baker & Kurt Vile - "Albuquerque" by Neil Young
A very smokey cover of Neil Young's "Albuquerque" by Phoebe Baker from Alpine and Kurt Vile on RocKwiz TV on May 5 2014. (RocKwiz is “Australia’s premier live music trivia quiz TV program…” Thanks DAYS OF THE CRAZY-WILD!)
Feel the spook.

Kurt Vile is fantastic, check out all his stuff.
ReplyDeleteHe is on the same ATP Iceland show with Neil/Crazy Horse.
His Bruce cover of "Downbound Train" is great as well:

Honestly... terrible cover.
ReplyDeleteThanks SONY & regular stairs.
ReplyDelete@10:47:00 AM - ok. So no pedal steel Ben Keith feel?
How about a link for a cover meeting your approval, pls?
Ok, this is one by an israeli group.

They tried something different at least.
I like it. reminds me of The Jayhawks
ReplyDeleteWR version's alright, but aping the Jayhawks aint doing nothing different; it's just aping the Jayhawks, B3 atmospherics be damned (very Garageband-y by the way).
ReplyDeleteThe LIVE TV rendition by Kurt Vile, with the lovely Phoebe, has the right salty/savory mix. Sorta JMC/Mazzy star vibe, with EXCELLENT lead work, and great rhythm.
Anonymous doesn't know what they are talking about, categorically.
For any others that want to sample the PHILLY renaissance that Kurt is spearheading, check out PURLING HISS, another artist/band that Whistling River COULDN'T TOUCH:
