From Review: Neil Young on the rock pulpit at Dolby Theatre - latimes.com by Randy Lewis:
For Young, too, there seems to be a ritualistic aspect of his periodic return to the solo acoustic format of his live shows, alternating with high-decibel sessions with Crazy Horse or the various other settings he’s explored over what’s fast approaching a half-century career. It’s as if it reconnects him with the musical and spiritual foundation of his art, stripping the process back to its fundamental components of one person, one instrument and a muse.

Without a word of introduction, Young sauntered on stage, grabbed a guitar and — as he did at Carnegie Hall in January — delivered his theme statement in the form of the song “From Hank to Hendrix” from his 1992 album “Harvest Moon”:

From Hank to Hendrix

I walked these streets with you

Here I am with this old guitar

Doin’ what I do

The 2½-hour show, which included a 30-minute intermission, stretched across his career, hewing closely to the songs he’d played in New York, yet still brimming with his signature sense of spontaneity, of mercurial artistry alive in the moment, that makes Young such a hallowed figure to so many. It’s the same kind of show Jonathan Demme documented in the 2012 concert film “Neil Young Journeys.”

  20. Phenomenal setlist. Since he played Thrasher, I wonder if we'll see the Live 1974 CSNY box this year.

  21. This was amazing even by the standards set by the NY shows. Mr. Soul on a pump organ was out of control, Love In Mind was as beautiful as anything I've ever heard him play, and If You Could Read My Mind was AMAZING. An absolutely stunning cover. It really was a pretty rude crowd though. Maybe some of them missed the word "acoustic" printed on the ticket, or hadn't seen the New York setlists...but t

  22. With all the talk about Thrasher (which was admittedly incredible) and If I could read your mind (also incredible), not much discussion about Philadelphia. An unbelievably beautiful song performed spectacularly. Great shoe. Don't wait until wed when I go again

  23. Saturday show is playing right now on Rust Radio, with Mister Soul the current tune at 12:45 pm edt. ETA for Thrasher somewhere around one thirty!

  25. Well I have been lucky enough to have seen Neil 48 times... I would give the 1st show at the Dolby a grade of B....Neil was very quite for the 1st half of the show.. And the song selection was ok but could have been stronger overall.. I think the sound at the Dolby is sub par.. Neil's acoustic guitars just didn't have the Neil drive behind them.. The Dolby ushers harassing patrons over taking a cell phone picture... The 2nd set was much better..Neil talked quite a bit, which is pure pleasure to us Neil fans.. I think had he added 4 or 5 more tunes (remember tickets were $400.00 a pop) then the night could have been magical..a 30 minute break between sets was a long break... Still the greatest song writer in my lifetime..And Thrasher was the song of the evening..He nailed it...I'll be there Wednesday night let's hope the sound is dialed in a little better and Neil's energy is up for both sets...
