"Two sign-language interpreters dressed as cheerleaders"

Young shut down the pre-Springsteen portion of the evening with a "Born in the USA" that included two sign-language interpreters dressed as cheerleaders signing along to the lyrics.

"John Legend made me sound like Gershwin," Springsteen said. "I love that. Neil Young made me sound like the Sex Pistols. I love that. What an evening."

Tonight, Friday on Feb. 8, the 2013 MusiCares tribute to Bruce Springsteen will feature performances by Neil Young, and many others.

Earlier this week, we posed the question What Bruce Springsteen Song Will Neil Young Cover at 2013 MusiCares Tribute This Friday?

And we got lots of suggestions here and over on our Facebook | ThrashersWheatNeverSleep page. Thanks to everyone who submitted nominations.

Here's a consolidated list of the top choices of Bruce songs that Neil might cover.

Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young

For us, the starting point is whether Neil will play with Crazy Horse? Or play solo?

It would seem that if with Crazy Horse, it would likely be a E Street Band song. And a classic Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band song at that.

We thought maybe a Bruce classic like "Jungleland" or "Thunder Road"? "Born to Run"?

Only "Thunder Road" made the final cut by TW voters.

But we were right on ruling out "Born in the USA" as a possibility since the song had one of the lowest vote totals of the 20+ songs nominated.

So what song do you think Neil will cover for the Bruce Springsteen 2013 MusiCares Tribute?

Have fun!

  2. NEIL YOUNG and CRAZY HORSE performing intimate show at The Plenary, Melbourne!
The announcement that Neil Young and Crazy Horse would be gracing both Australia and New Zealand with their phenomenal live show left fans thrilled and quick to grab tickets to see the legendary performers in concert.
In addition to the arena and winery performances already announced on their tour, The Frontier Touring Company are delighted to announce a one off, up close and personal show at The Plenary in Melbourne on Wednesday 13 March. This performance promises to offer an altogether unique and intimate experience.

  4. Probably not going to be televised on account of it'll be midnight on the East Coast once it starts.

Are we expecting acoustic Neil or Neil with the Horse?

  7. These Musicares events have not been telecast in the past and usually released as a concert DVD to benefit the cause.

@ Matthew - if Neil covers "Born in the USA"... well ... it would just confirm what we already know... he's really something that we'll never figure.

Just about anything would be pretty cool. Thunder Road or Mansion would be excellent.

  11. Neil's most likely doing Born In The USA.

That's what Jackson Browne said during his red carpet interview.

  12. @ Rusting Giant - If Neil does Born In The USA it'll be such a goof.

That would be so crazy even for Crazy Horse.

What's Jackson Browne going to cover?

  13. @Thrasher Jackson Browne's playing "American Skin (41 Shots)".

  14. That will be wild if Neil really does play Born In the USA. I had figured something more like Promised Land or Racing In the Street, but then again it would be totally like Neil to do something different that he wants to do.

Just happy that we still have power at my house and I can follow what's going on. Nemo is raging right now like you would not believe! Way over a foot of snow already and the serious stuff is just getting going. Wind gusts over 60 mph and they've evacuated many folks along the ocean just a few miles away. The really big snowstorms always hit in February. This one is a monster.

"And the wind caught the edges of the cloth that covered my window. There I kept vigil, alert to the small, easily becoming, through an open eye, monstrous and beautiful."

    --Patti Smith

It is kind of dangerous to use the words "Well, certainly, we can rule out..." in relation to Neil Young.

    Don't tell me I didn't warn you T.
You should have known better after all these bloggin years. ; )
Keep on bloggin in the free world!
