CBS This Morning Interview of Neil Young, Jonathan Demme
A nice interview on CBS This Morning with Neil Young and Jonathan Demme.
Watch Neil's reaction to co-host Gail King's comment about his "silky, smooth voice". Priceless.
Charlie Rose is also co-host and manages to try and draw Neil out on his autobiographical songs.
Thanks Dan!

Neil comes over well with lots of humour, but why don't they ask some in depth questions? It's a little schmaltzy for me...
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that Charlie Rose was on a network morning show. That's shocker. But I think what the lady said early in the interview about the lyrics in "Philadelphia" was very endearing. She was being genuine which is very unusual for anchors and morning show hosts. It made Neil blush. I also liked what he said about the best place to listen to music. Nice job, Neil!
ReplyDeleteLike MNotR said. Unusual indeed.
ReplyDeleteIt was refreshing to see. Nothing ruins an interview like a host that has no clue who they are talking to and sound like they googled the person before they sat down.
the questions were fine. a network show is not the time or place to ask him about the archives or time fades away.

ReplyDeleteNeil was feeling a little uncomfortable with all that praise there for a minute, that thing was going downhill until he lightened things up for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI don't think he was expecting a compliment or a question like, "so Neil, How would you describe your voice?" LOL
ReplyDeleteAfter he takes his hat off and smooths out his hair, it was like he was saying "okay folks, enough shmoozing. Let's get down to business here and say what we gotta say before we run out of time..."
Professional but unpretentious!
I love this exchange:
ReplyDeleteCharlie Rose: Are they [your songs] all autobiographical in one way or another?
Neil Young: Some of them aren't.
CR: And which are the ones that are most autobiographical?
NY: Well, you know, almost all of them.
"They come out of me, and I'm, I'm just here... It's not all great while it's happening, but I'm just really glad to be here for it."

Regrets to be off subject again, FWIW just noticed Neil added a show in Brooklyn, NY on Mon Dec 3, and learned tickets went on sale yesterday (Mon), there are still some tickets available but the cheap general admission tickets are sold out ...
ReplyDeleteThe one and only - Great interview! Made me feel very alone for some reason - maybe because I no longer live in NORCAL and am back in the U.K. I won't be a part of the tour coming up.....
ReplyDeleteI also think that Neil is showing us the personality we all secretly knew but was never allowed to surface through previous media ... (except the music of course!)
Nicely dressed...very hot.
ReplyDeletePlease let the poncho be gone.

He's honest as can be and makes no big deal out of his songwriting and singing.Neil you're the man!
ReplyDeleteI’ll be at the Nuart Theater in West Los Angeles on Saturday for the 1st showing of “Journeys.” Looking forward to it.

ReplyDeleteI also loved this interview! Two of my most favorite people in the Universe together!!!!
Almost 3 weeks later, I still have a very hard time putting into words what the experience of seeing Neil Young Journeys was like.
All I can say is be prepared for an EXTREMELY INTENSE musical experience. I can't wait to go back for more!!!
Once again, Mr. Demme has turned in a Masterpiece!
The sound quality was incredible, and it was great to have Neil right there with us (in Westchester); he showed us his film "Day at the Gallery" on the big screen. That was great as well.
Loving Neil Young Journeys,
Marian M.
I missed Neil in Westchester NY ?
ReplyDeletePoor Charlie Rose...
