No Depression Review: "Americana" by Neil Young and Crazy Horse

An early preview review of "Americana" by Neil Young and Crazy Horse from No Depression | Americana and Roots Music by Nancy Dunham:
If a listener doesn't tune into the words on some of the songs, it'd be easy to mistake them for modern-day rock anthems. That's especially true on the album's opening track "Oh Susanna," which is awash in electric guitars and throbbing drums plus Young's unmistakeable voices, which still have the strength and nuances they held a few decades ago.

...

My view is that anyone who can make songs such as "She'll be Coming 'Round the Mountain" cool again and introduce classic songs to a new generation is a genius, in my view.

  1. Keep the record store alive, don't buy off amazon

  2. And then there's this: "As a sidenote, Young and his band are now recording another album presumably of original material, according to his reps."

    Tantalizing...

  3. It was a Super moon this past week end. Since Neil famously likes to record during a full moon, it's fun, yes FUN, to wonder what will come to us from a moon like that.
I'm also wondering if Lincvolt got her final coat of pearlescent sprayed on her large but well formed body under the light of a silvery moon?
I am very much looking forward to some new Crazy Horse and their grizzled faces on the cover. And Lincvolt's smooth, new face! But mostly the promised live stream of Lincvolt's road trip this summer! Shades of Wichita! Silence is golden!

  4. The album of originals is already recorded, is it not...?

And yeah, buy from your smallest, most local record store or your smallest, most local online distro, kids (and baby-boomers. Corporate former hippies are the worst!). "Small record stores are better" bumper stickers should be issued!
