  6. Tom Dula is pretty cool. It sure reminds of an old NY tune, I just recall which one. I also dig High Flyin' Bird. Gallows Pole and Get a Job are fun. Wayfarin' Stranger is the pretty tune here -it sounds like Boxcar, though. Travel On and This Land Is Your Land are a bit countryish for me.

  9. Holy cow, I am diggin it. It really hangs together. High Flying Bird-wowwwwww! I assumed that I would not buy this one, but wow. Wayfaring Stranger!! I am surprised and delighted to say this is a strong album. I have been fully converted. A couple of weak ones, but geez. Pretty damn good for a bunch of old men.
Good idea to stream the whole thing. It really works as a unit. I'm even kind of ferenteg liking God Save the Queen now after dissin it. I can hardly believe how much I like this thing. I'm pretty much rendered inarticulate. Go, Neil!

  10. sorry, I can't stand Poncho's idiotic, tuneless, out-of-time harmonies on Tom Dula. I know this is a harsh criticism, but I really love the rest of the album. I just can't listen to Dula. I would skip it every time if I decided to purchase the CD.

  13. ... Kind of starts out real slow and then fizzles out altogether.

  14. BC-that's one of Neil's funniest lines ever. Thanks for reminding us of his sense of humor.

  15. Well, going by what has been previewed, I think it's going to be wonderful!

    Still waiting for Americana,

  16. This is really fascinating and fun. I had no idea that the 50's pop-tune "Get a Job" was the one they were covering. It's really funny hearing Neil and the Horse go, "Sha-na-na-na, sha-na-na-na-na!" Ha!

I LOVE High Flying Bird. It's reallllly nice. I'll comment more later when I get a chance to sit down and hear the whole thing.

So far, it's definitely one I'll be going out and buying.

  18. This album is incredible. From start to finish, it's a classic, in my opinion.

Neil's guitar work is amazing...the Horse sounds better than ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The fact that they're releasing another album of NEW material is such great news!

  20. Jim, what's this about an album of NEW material? I thought this was it. Are they working on an album wth original songs?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, supposedly they were working on an album of original material while they were creating Americana. It's all rumor at this point, as they only officially said anything about it once, and we haven't heard anything official since, but supposedly there are two new albums. The first is Americana, the second is all original.

  22. Belgian Magazine "Knack Focus gives "Americana" 3stars (max is 4)

"...Neil Young and Crazy Horse blow away he dust (of these evergreens) like they are the only ones who can do it : raw and delicate, fitting together wonderful..."

  23. Yes, it looks like the vinyl version of Americana has been postponed until July 24...

“Americana” will come on two discs of super-heavy, audiophile grade 180-gram vinyl—pressed in Germany, no less. Side 4, instead of featuring music, will come engraved with an etching of a Native American figure riding horseback.

I have to admit that I have prejudice when I heard that Neil & CH are covering old folksongs. But sometimes it's great to be wrong. Album sounds absolutely great! Once again, absolutely great! Okay, once again.. Absolutely great!

My ears are hearing that Neil & CH are enjoying playing these songs. I hear positive vibes, great guitar sounds and nice uptempo feeling all around album. Neil and his company are still rockin' !

I eagerly wait when I can buy vinyl version and can play it loud and drink couple of beers. It's gonna be great moment!

Sorry, that I'm so enthusiastic, but I'm sure that for this time there's good reason!

It's great to be NY fan!
