Very cool video interview! Thanks for posting it, Thrasher. Neil is obviously very pleased and enthusiastic about the release of "A Treasure." The musicians in the International Harvesters are all top-notch and they all really look like they're enjoying themselves on-stage together.
ReplyDeleteI'm really pleased to see Southern Pacific getting its due. That is a terrific song and I don't think it got the attention it deserves (perhaps because it was released on ReActor). The version that's on A Treasure is IMHO much better. What a great song!
ReplyDeleteThe comments made during the various interviews and the work put into this album and blue-ray packaging tell me that this is the most endearing of all times for Neil relative to his music fufilling his dreams. Now it may be a retrospective feeling now looking back, but it's not suprising given the turmoil of his life in the 80's and the breakouts from the difficulties in caring for Ben thru the program he's described, and the crazy stuff with the record company relative to his 'Neil Young' music. These shows seen to have been the Great Escape into the music and as he has said, playing with the best musicians certainly drew out his best. And recognizing that alot of the songs were wrtitten on the fly only cements the talent and the feel he has to communicate his emotions and creativity.
ReplyDeleteI've had a copy of the Austin City Limits show on vhs and cassette for 20 years, but this collection and the firsthand stories of it's creation are pricless.
Thankfully the Treasure isn't buried anymore.
SONY _ well played. Yes, the insight is unprecedented.
ReplyDeleteWhat other treasures might lie buried in the NYA vaults?
it's all a journey thru the past...
