CONTEST: Win A Pair of Neil Young Tickets in Boston, 4/19

Thanks to a very, very generous Thrashers Wheat reader, we are pleased to be able to offer a pair of tickets to see Neil Young in concert at the Wang Center, Boston, April 19.

In order to win these tickets, we are having a Neil story contest. Send in your Neil story and the generous donator will pick a winner.

Maybe a Neil Young concert memory? Or a favorite Neil song story? What Neil's music means to you? Any Neil story that you think will resonate with the judge and indicate that the tickets will be well enjoyed. That is to say, we're not looking for excellence in writing first and foremost. It's more about the story and its passion and appreciation of Neil's music.

E-mail your Neil Young story to thrasher ATSIGN thrasherswheat.org

  8. As a young, poor songwriter, I was listening to Neil as I was writing a song, and I based the song around the line "It's better to burn out than to fade away", I finished the lyrics, and was contacted by a label I'm now working with because of that very song.

I'm still young and poor, but doing what I love, and on my way to making a living with it within the next year. Thanks for the inspiration, Neil. I hope to join you on stage one day, but I hope to see you do your thing sooner.

  9. Hi there,
It's hard to pick one song, concert experience or Neil Young memory that makes it special from all the others. I grew up with Neil playing the background music of my life. I do want to say something about my recovery and how Neil inspired that as well. At that time I could identify so closely with "No More" from Freedom.

Livin' on the edge of night
You know the sun won't go down slow
You don't know which drug is right
Can't decide which way you wanna go
I feel the way you feel
    'Cause not so long ago
It had a hold on me
    I couldn't let it go
    It wouldn't set me free
    It wouldn't set me free
No more, no more, no more.

    Seemed like the easy thing
To let it go for one more day
Like singin' the same old song
    And twistin' the words
    In a different way

    Where did the magic go
    I searched high and low
I can't find it no more
    I can't get it back
I can't find it no more
I can't find it no more
No more, no more, no more, no more.

    Searchin' for quality
Havin' to have the very best
    Now scroungin' for quantity
    Never havin' time
    To do the test
    That's how the story goes
    Can't put it down
    Till the last page
    I can't put it down
    I can't put it down
    I can't put it down.

Especially pointing directly at me were the lines:

    Searchin' for quality
Havin' to have the very best
    Now scroungin' for quantity
    Never havin' time
    To do the test

Well the good news is I finally found the time to do that test and work on myself.

    Thank you Neil.
    Michael
