Review: "Neil Young looks back down that long road"

A rather extensive review of Le Noise from NewsTime by Mervyn Dendy, "Neil Young looks back down that long road".

The review has a nice survey of Neil's career, recognition of his contributions to music history and definitely recommended. Here are just a few sample quotes from Dendy's review:
  • Neil Young is one of rock music’s greatest troubadours.
  • His catalogue is now so large that it rivals even that of Bob Dylan, and he is second only to Dylan as a singer-songwriter of literary excellence and philosophical depth.
  • More than any other artiste in all of rock (even Dylan), Neil Young is the one most likely to come up at any time with yet another towering masterpiece; he can never be ignored or written off.
  • Every track on Le Noise is arresting, from the bracing opening chord of “Walk With Me” that calls to mind the start of the Beatles’ “A Hard Day’s Night”, to the apocalyptic fading tape loop of electronic noise at the end of “Rumblin’”, with which the album signs off.
  • Thematically, Le Noise is mainly an autobiographical album in which an older and wiser man looks back down the long and eventful road along which he has traveled.

  1. Love a good NY cover. Amazing how a good artist can make it their own and keep it fresh.
