Simply stunning. This is must see TV.

A stop animation for Laura Marling's cover of Neil Young song "The needle and the damage done".

You may never think of the song the same again....

  1. Great video.
Laura is imho one of the best singer songwriters of this time if not the best, on the same level as Joni Mitchell, with a touch of Bob Dylan.
I saw her perform live this year in Amsterdam and I've not seen such a young person so mature. She did Needle then too.
Every Neil-fan should listen to her…

  4. not everyone other then Neil can usually give this song justice..but there are exceptions!..and here's one..very moving and graphic animation...no one likes a junkie..not even the furniture!!

  5. Hi Doc - I like your interpretation of the furniture itself leaving. However, my take on this animation is that addiction takes EVERYTHING AWAY - in this case even inanimate objects. You see them leave the image completely - not seeing exactly where they're going but I assume they are completely gone. And what's left? The needle.

Sad beyond words and I'm one of the lucky ones who was able to pull out of that lifestyle and live to talk about it.

  6. Ditto that Jonathan. As someone who was on the edges of that scene way back I`ve seen my share of lives devasted by the needle and the damage done. For a junkie nothing else matters in the end except that next fix, whatever the cost. I consider myself lucky to have escaped (relatively) unscathed.

Beautiful version by Laura. I`m not familiar with her work but think I`ll give her a listen.
