  4. Hey Archives Guy,

This is my first opportunity to thank you for all the great info that I've been able to obtain from you that has aided me incredibly during this exciting and unprecedented time for Neil Young fans. I just received my blu-ray box set from DVDPlanet and I have a question about the original packaging that I'm not certain you would be able to answer. Does the shrinkwrap encapsule the entire box set, or are there gaps in the plastic wrapping on the top and bottom of the box? Since I've heard that DVDPlanet can be (more than) a little sketchy with their filfillment, I want to make sure I'm getting a legit product.

Many thanks for any info you can provide.

    - Mike

  5. Sorry, I can't help you on that one, MIke.

I've never seen the set with shrinkwrap and stickers on it.

  6. There are indeed gaps in the shrink wrap on the archives set. This is normal. The shrink wrap just covers the sides and the corners.

  7. Archives Guy,
I have yet to receive my copy of NYA, but am very excited and enthralled by the new doors this project opens up. I am a media professional, specializing in video production, editing, shooting, etc. With this project I've become very interested in Blu-Ray multimedia production and am wondering if you can recommend good places to start for those interested in getting into this type of project. Thanks!

Hey AG, I'm having a problem with the preview Blu-Ray Disc 0. I received it a few weeks ago, loaded it up and the BD-Live kicked in immediately. I downloaded the basement version of "I Wonder" and it appeared in the timeline etc no problem. I played it several times without issue.

However I went into it today and the blue-pin is now NOT appearing on the timeline but I can see on my PS3 that the file (72Mb in size) is still there.

When I go to the downloads page on the timeline, it says that my PS3 doesn't have an internet connection which is nonsense 'cause I can browse the web with it.

I deleted the file via the PS3 GUI in the vain hope that the file might download again but nada, and I'm still getting a msg that it can't connect to the internet.

    What gives?

  9. Leroy-

There is no problem on your end. We are doing some server shakedowns before the actual release date (tomorrow) and will shortly have your download visible again.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hey Leroy,
Some of us have experienced the same issue and AG helped us out with this understanding.
As the Official Release Date is June 2 some of us were lucky enough to get an Advanced View of what BD Live holds for us.
At present The Archives Server is off line till the official Date, June 2 when all these shall return (Push Pins).
AG also helped make it clear that your BD Player must be on-line to play see/playback these Push Pins but they are indeed loaded on to your BD Player. So don't fret...Tomorrow should bring those wonderful updates in the Timeline of the Archives.
Did I get that close AG?

Is Neil's store shipping Blus today? I see the status of my order hasn't changed (InProcess), but hoped it would ship to arrive ASAP. Yes, you could call me eager.

  14. Archives Guy,

No questions, but I just wanted to say thanks for all you, and your teams hard work. Being from the UK, I wont get my set for another week at least, but from the small parts I've read of other's reviews, it sounds amazing.

It looks like it will be everything Neil said it would be, and more.

Oh, and thanks so much for allowing us input, especially regarding the mp3s!!!!

And thanks again, Thrasher, for running THE best site on the web!!!!!!

Oh, and Archives Guy, if you happen to be in touch with Neil at any point, can you PLEASE ask him to play Comes A Time in Aberdeen on the 24th? It would mean the world to my dad. Thanks so much for everything!

  18. i have a question. am i ever going to get my archives?

no, j/k AG, i know the answer is yes, and i know you can't say when. but arrgh, folks. i ordered my bluray from ny dot com in march, and wb still says "in process," even tho i paid for RUSH delivery. i called and they couldn't really tell me when where what why who. it's only annoying because all over the world i hear archives boxes being ripped open. wah. okay. spoiled brat cry baby mode off.

i was in a hurry, but that don't matter now.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Just received mine here in the States (New Hampshire). The status on my order page never changed from "in process', which had me nervous that it hadn't shipped. Simply amazing set!!!!!

Seems like people aren't allowed to have an alternate opinion on All Things Neil without getting ripped a new one by the 96 Percenters.

Hey Mr Drip - Get a Grip!

Back to the concert...the facility was not ideal. It was basically General Admission anywhere you went. When they opened the gates, we made a mad dash for the stage, amongst a literal cast of thousands, somehow ending up 2nd row, dead center.

This was at 6 o'clock, for the Jayhawks pleasing 1-hr set. And there we stood...until Neil came on at 9:30 pm. You literally could not move - and if you decided to refill your beer, or use the Port-A-John....you weren't getting anywhere near close to the stage, ever again.

Neil played til 11:15 and the crowd dispersed, only to reemerge for some Sonic Youth at 1:15 am. I listened for a bit, before heading for the exits. Spent!

  34. U.K. stock update.

Although Warners have put back the release date until June 8th here in the U.K. Other distribution companies such as Proper have imported their own stock ( mainly CDs I think ) and these have reached stores and mail order already.
There seem to be no import restrictions in place from U.S. wholesalers so some stores have imported their own stock of all three formats which have also arrived.
That's what we did in our shop so I'm sure others must have too.
The stock from Warners for next Monday's release should arrive in Store on Friday if not before so if you ask nicely in your local independent shop you may get lucky and get the set for the weekend.

A word of caution , we have some damaged sets in our delivery . The spine of the card sleeves for the DVD sets are split in some cases as it seems a tight fit with all ten discs in the holder. Be careful when taking the extra compartment out as one of ours had come apart .
Having said all that , the set is amazing , we love the book and the BD version totally lives up to expectation.

Thanks again A.G. for all the tips , I set my system up as you advised and have been enjoying the amazing sound quality.

  37. Archives Guy, about the MP3 download. I have a limited monthly broadband allowance, so was wondering a) do you have to download the set all in one go, or can you do it disc by disc in several sessions, and b) roughly how big is the combined size? Hoping to get my DVD set on Friday...

    Hidden Tracks.

They are part of the disc, they are not downloads, has nothing to do with the internet.

  42. AG -

Has there been any talk as to how BluRay Live material will be released? Will it be done so on a regular, predictable basis...or more haphazardly, and random?

Also, the vast majority of press reports have been exceedingly positive - are there any major press launches expected - rolling stone, new york times etc?

  43. Andy t:
I had ordered it at my Friendly Local Record Store - but the distributors here (or WB-NL) messed things up and delivered the bulk of the BR sets to a big chain of record stores instead, thus neglecting the pre-orders.

Not wanting to miss out, I bought it anyway - (for 70 euro more, money I would have gladly spend extra for it at my FLRS) at one of those shops.

For Volume II I hope they do a better job here, otherwise I will buy it on-line instead.

AG: A big thanks to you and the rest of the team, for the box and for your on-line presence.

  48. AG, you've probably tackled a few hundred questions over the last few weeks and you've had an answer for most of them.

Now that the official release of the Archives is ominously close and we've all learnt how archaic our current audio and DVD systems are in a lot of cases, I don't want to put you in a technological quandary...BUT.. given all the new information and experiences that you have and along with the thousands of other Wheaties that have conveyed to you with their expereiences regarding Blu-ray, Ps3's R2D2's CP30's etc ,......In Summary..What is the ultimate ,perfect set up to buy, to thoroughly enjoy The Neil Deal in a box?
Before I buy anything to savour this experience, is this new technology changing that quickly from Day to Day that, like every other thing that I have bought, They are superseded by something more supoerior the next Day?

Look ,I'm in Serious mode here. Please guide to the ultimate experience!

  50. Can anyone please help me answer this question -- does the 'free' download come only if you pre-order the Blue Ray set or will the download still be available if I order the Blue Ray set in the future? Thanks for any help.

You've mentioned a couple of times something about a NYA Original Release Series which had never been
    talked about before.
Is there a planned release date for these yet? Will the artwork be in the same style as the other archive discs? and finally is there room for them in the extra compartment in the archives box?
(We haven't received ours in the UK yet so I don't know how big the
    compartment is)?

  61. Guess maybe I'm way behind the game on this and maybe a bit foolish to just assume it would work with what I have. It opens it with the InterVideo Win DVD BD for VAIO. Is there other software that I might have or could purchase reasonably that could work better? Or am I just screwed using a pc and should have known better?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hi lou
I have had exactly same problem with sony vaio and win dvd the disc wont play which is very frustrating!I have installed total media theatre on my computer its free for a 2 week trial then it costs about £50 to get permanently it seems to work for me .
    regards dolbero

    ReplyDelete
  63. Lou, if you have WinDVD 8 or WinDVD 9, go to http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Content/1153321224268 and download the latest patch for it. Hopefully that will help. If not, you'll need to get new software.

I use Arcsoft's TotalMedia Theatre, which is actually recommended by Neil's crew. Whatever you do, avoid PowerDVD 9! It's full of bugs and unusable in quite a few instances.

Good luck! A PC isn't a bad thing to use for the Archives. You just have to do a little more homework.

    ReplyDelete
  64. So the link on the back of the download card does not work, has the URL been changed or is the site just not ready yet?

    ReplyDelete
  65. Trying to use my MP3 card and the web site listed http://www.neilyoungarchives.warnereprise.com/ does not seem to exist. The Neil Young Archives site offers no clues and no "customer support" page as noted on the card. What gives?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Should say the correct address is http://www.neilyoungarchives.warnerreprise.com/

    That doesn't work either.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Any idea why my CD version of Live at the Riverboat is showing 20 tracks instead of 14 - I'm ripping it to my MP3 player (using Zune) and no info is showing up so I'm having to enter it manually. The rip shows 20 tracks.

  68. Hello? is this thing on?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Have received confirmation from WB that Vol 1 has been despatched (to the UK). Worryingly it shows that the Preview Disc took 11 days from despatch to receipt. So at the same rate it will be 12 June before it arrives!

Anyone in the UK received their copy yet?

    ReplyDelete
  70. The MP3 card is not working. The instructions on the back of the card tell you to go to HTTP://neilyoungarchives.warnerreprise.com and when you get there it has a message that all MP3s will be available after 7 pm on June 5th. Well it's after that and the same message is still there with no link. What is the deal????

    ReplyDelete
  71. any idea when these mp3 download cards are going to work? I bought the BluRay set with the intention of making a BluRay media center PC for my living room, and was hoping the download card would hold me over until I had it finished, but the website the card points to doesn't have the mp3s up yet.

the box looks very nice, and the book is cool, but I want to hear the music too.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm 28 years old and I've been waiting for the archives since I heard about them when Neil did his Silver and Gold world premiere on the radio in 2000. The future is now! so whats up with the mp3 downloads? thanks Neiler.
