  1. He's left the stage early, so the scheduled live feed on UK ITV2 is no longer happening. Dammit.

  2. itv are just annoying, running time on iow website so 21.00 - 23.00, ITV just poorly organised!

  5. How frustrating was that - they played stuff from the friday and saturday for an hour then said "woops, neil young has finished"

    They better have recorded some.

  6. Im fuming, the two clown presenters on ITV spent most of thier time trying to be funny and showing steriophonics.

Here is Neil's setlist from NME.

  9. only twelve songs.....

    what happened ???????

    why ???????

  10. A 12-song set does seem incredibly short doesn't it? ITV2 are idiots for not covering Neil live, I got home late and fired up the recorder expecting a few tracks but was disappointed with the likes of Razorlight and the bloody Stereophonics. Why oh why did they feature highlights from all 3 days when he was playing live??! I've read he left the stage 15 minutes early too... at first I thought it was some sort of grumpy protest, but the NME review is rather positive. I hope they've got it recorded.

  11. I sent them a small email of complaint, it was false advertising! Very naughty, they used his name to promote their footage on all the TV ads and then none of him. I don't buy the 'he finished early' excuse. More like someone at ITV2 forgot to clear it with his management the right to film and at the last min management said no, like Leonard Cohen and the BBC at Glasto last year.

  12. I was there last night and it was a superb gig. Not the longest performance ever, however the "12 songs" is misleading as many of them were hugely long.

My only real complaint is that he didn't connect with the audience at all - he was aloof almost to the point of arrogance. But I'll let him off, as when you're that good at what you do, maybe you're allowed to be like that!

Hey Hey My My was immense - better than on Live Rust.

Overall, a superb gig, and another one of my "Must see" acts finally ticked off (and more than lived up to expectations, which is certainly not always the case).

  13. 12 songs is not correct. I don't know the correct setlist yet, but it was a complete show. I've been told to add at least Don't Let It Bring You Down, Pocahontas, Unknown Legend, Spirit Road & Words to what NME published.

  14. The problem with the Isle of Wight festival crowd is the majority are a bunch of tossers who know f$&* all about music.
This is the festival where they set up the facebook petition to have Neil removed as the headline act.
I have had a look at the IoW forum and a few people have been converted but a lot just don,t get it.

I think the Glastonbury show will be better appreciated as they are a better educated crowd.

The itv coverage was all adverts again BBC with no adverts will be much better.

On a more positive note only 6 days to Dublin and then Nottingham 2 days after ( hopefully more than 12 songs, but if he played one I would still be happy).

Hopefully Neil will not bother with the UK festivals and just do Neil Young shows with Peggi as warm up.

Thats my moan over and know to get back to my archive watching.

  15. well, neil should have opened with "hey hey my my" to get some of those on the fence interested. instead he opened with "from hank to hendrix", and the crowd started streaming out immediately (from reports).

  17. I complained about the lack of Neil on TV to viewerservices@itv.com, and got the following reply:

"Thank you for your email regarding the Isle Of Wight Festival.

As you know, we try to show a real mix of acts from the whole festival and sometimes we're not able to bring all the acts to our coverage due to timings on stage, timings of our live shows and of course, contractual and legal issues. It was a combination of these reasons that meant we weren't able to bring you the planned coverage of Neil Young.

    Regards

    ITV Viewer Services - SR"

Note the absence of an apology.

Sounds like Neil's management didn't give permission, but then ITV shouldn't have advertised on the basis of having Neil headlining their coverage.

I'd be interested to see how (or if) his Glastonbury appearance is covered by the BBC. Not that interested though, as I'll be there in the flesh anyway!

    Hi folks,

He played at least 16 songs and - the electric stuff in particular - was fabulous. We were right down the front and it was mind blowing. One of the best Down by the Rivers I've heard.

I am so glad he finished about 10 minutes early: by a set of lucky breaks we got back to 30 miles north of London by 2.30 a.m. (just in time to watch a crap ITV 2 recording in fast forward!).

See you at Nottingham and Hyde Park!!

  21. Finsbury Park Sunday 11th July 1993'Neil Young with Booker & The MGS, Radio 2 were to broadcast the show live. Cancelled at the last moment due to contractual disagreement with Neils Management. Deja Vu!
Don't hold you breath for a live broadcast from Glasto!

  23. I was there and it was fantastic. A beautiful summer night and a blistering set. Ferocious guitar. Four out-takes of RITF with an great humoured NY led mass hand-waving session. Came back for two mind-blowing encores. I would say he enjoyed the night from where I was standing. I can guarantee all the songs below were played, apologies if order muddles but it's more correct than anything else on here or NME.

    From Hank to Hendrix
Don't Let it Bring You Down
    Mother Earth
    Heart of Gold
    Old Man
    Comes a Time
    Hey Hey My My
    Mansion on the Hill
    Spirit Road
    Pocahontas
    Fuckin Up
    Cinnamon Girl
    RITFW

    Down By the River
    A Day in The Life

  24. Boy that ITV2 non coverage was so frustrating. The promise of Neil not delivered, except for two 5 second bursts of RITFW and DBTR.To learn what a great set it was,is good to hear, but all the more frustrating for the would be viewers.
So, ITV2,your coverage sucked, and Neil, your fans would love to see you on TV,mate.

  25. BRILLIANT SHOW. ROCKING IN THE FREE WORLD UNBELIEVABLE. POCAHONTAS VERY HEAVY AND ALSO BRILLIANT.
FROM WHAT I CAN REMEMBER THE SET LIST THE GUY PUT DOWN EARLIER SEEMS ABOUT RIGHT.
THE CAMERAS WERE FIMING THROUGH OUT, SO HOW ABOUT A NEIL YOUNG SPECIAL ITV 2, OR DO YOU ONLY CATER FOR THE MINORITY OF FESTIVAL FOOLS WHO DID NOT KNOW WHO NEIL WAS.

  26. On The "Archives" thread, I've just suggested that the Isle Of Wight set be made available as a BDLive download...

  27. I've just learned from here the farce that is itv2, and i've been waiting for the footage to be put on itv2 website! I spent the last 6 months answering the question 'Who is Neil Young?' with growing anticipation, so much so that by the festival I was simply answering You'll see... What a farce and I'm sorry I missed it all. idiots.

  28. Last night ITV ran highlights of the IoW festival. The pre-show notes said "including the legendary Neil Young". How much Neil did they show? None! Where are the Regulators when you need them??

    ReplyDelete
  29. It;s a blessing in disguise not to have Neil associated with the 2 clowns and bbc cup on his grand piano.

    ReplyDelete
  30. On Sky info it said "featuring the Ledgendary Neil Young" but it didn't. Wasted my time looking through hours of other bands looking for Neil. Poor.....
