"Burned" by Neil Young in Concert in Dublin, Ireland - 6/21/09

First live performance of Buffalo Springfield song "Burned" in 40+ years by Neil Young in concert in Dublin, Ireland on 6/21/09 from YouTube.

Thanks BSM & nychnych!

According to Young's own account of this song from the Decade liner notes:
"My first vocal ever done in a studio late 1966 (Gold Star). The boys gave me some uppers to get my nerve up. Maybe you can hear that. I was living in a $12.50 per week apartement at the time and everybody on the floor liked it too. We stayed up all night listening to it."

  5. Give the unrest in Iran and the senseless killing of innocent protesters it wouldn't shock me if Neil broke out Ohio too ... I remember him dedicating that song in '89 to those killed in Tianamen Square in China. This is eerily similar ... and the Iranian people need all the help they can get to fight an oppressive, savage and brutal regime trying to suppress their basic human rights. The world seems far to silent while this is going on. In these instances, Neil has often taken a stand.

  6. Excellent comment, Dan.
About the 'silence of the world', well, maybe it's despair and exhaustion at yet another flairup of brutality in an already overburdened world. Even Ireland has had recent violence just when things seemed to calm down.

  7. ‘What if you knew her and saw her dead on the ground…’ ran through my head I watched the video of that beautiful young girl dying. Perhaps Neil and CSN will both add Ohio to their sets at Glastonbury. I hope so.

I wouldn’t agree that the whole world is silent. There is a huge online effort to help. Pissing in the wind? Maybe, but it still feels good.

  8. Hey, What's Neil got over his left shoulder?..Is he half wearing some sorta of trench coat or something?

    Enlighten me Dublinese!

    Wondering Dip..

I notice he's still wearin' that T shirt with the aboriginal flag!

    Treaty Yeah!! Treaty Yeah!

  9. That's his shirt on his left shoulder - he took it half off early on and just left it like that for most of the rest of the set!

  11. That was amazing!!! I wish there was a live album of material from this tour.

I hope this sparks a trend of him dusting off other rarities from years past.

    Cheers,

  12. What a brilliant, brilliant night! I was greatly surprised when he did Burned that night. Apparently that was the first song where he did the lead vocal duties when he recorded it with Buffalo Springfield back in the mid-60's and now 40 years later he has blown the dust off the tune and played it for all us to hear.

    Neil's the man

    keep rockin' Neil!
