POTATO HOLE: Booker T, Drive-By Truckers & Neil Young Album

As we blogged on last year's rumors, Booker T, The Drive-By Truckers and Neil Young have recorded a new album titled POTATO HOLE.

With backing from the Drive-By Truckers and guitar contributions from Neil Young on nine of the album’s ten tracks, POTATO HOLE is set for release on April 21, 2009.

Regarding The Drive-By Truckers, “Their three-guitar approach appealed to me,” Booker T told USA Today. Make that five, on occasion: Jones added guitar parts on some tracks, and Neil Young played throughout. “He adds that special thing that only he can do,” said Jones of Young's contributions.

From Billboard:
"'It was a matter of finding people to help me interpret these ideas,' Jones told Billboard. 'In the public's mind, it's gonna be a new sound for me. In my mind it's not. I've loved rock for a long time. In the '60s I wrote a few songs for Otis Redding and Eddie Floyd that were rock songs, but it was too soon for us to be doing that kind of music.'"

The Outkast song?? As interpreted by Booker T/DBT/Neil Young?? If so, this could be bizarrely great.

Monday is Martin Luther King Day in honor of a great black man.

On Tues., the U.S. inaugartes the first man into the White House.

Must just be the moon and stars...

The days of Alabama's Southern man continues to wane.

  11. Just bought this at my local record shop in Sydney Australia. The whole thing is incredible...it is such a nice thick soup of Bookers church chords and the DBTs doing there thing with wailing, succinct geetar solos from Ol' Neil. Booker T. is obviously inspired.

In the liner notes he says thanks to Neil for: " being like a race horse, unable to wait to get out of the gate, and for playing with so much heart and brilliance". Well said, Booker T...and spot on!

  12. p.s. the cover of Tom Waits "Get Behind the Mule" is down home, down right, slow cooker & a show case for Booker's fingers.
