Neil Young is 63 years young today. So Happy Birthday Neil!!!

From over on Human Highway, a MP3 file is posted from November 12th, 1997, when Pearl Jam played the Catalyst Club in Santa Cruz, CA. During the set, Eddie Vedder pulled out a cell phone and called Neil to wish him a Happy Birthday.

It's got to be hard figuring out what to do each year for his birthday. Just when you think somebody finally got it right about Neil, as in Emmylou's case, saying his bags are always packed waiting for when the muse strikes, somebody explains his genius in another equally brilliant way.
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine what my life would have been like when I was lying in a burned out basement listening to "Tell Me Why" for the first time or crying over a break up listening to "Only Love Can Break Your Heart." How about feeling blissfully overwhelmed by the first beautiful crispy day of Spring and listening to "Round and Round."
To some of us, Neil is our hero and our inspiration. We are his Moon children fed from his creative energy. To others, the one's who have fallen really hard for his music, his defiance, and his alter ego, he is that little space in our brain we fill up with fantasy.
For everything that makes us tick, Neil is the second hand that helps us get through the worst and best of times. When our hearts are broken or when we get caught in that vacuum of life, his music is always there talking us off the ledge, luring us under a comforting full moon's gaze like a mother's lullaby. He tells us, it's gonna be alright. No matter what happens.
He's not God or an Idol. He's a messanger. And here's a message back to him from all of us. Happy Birthday to the nicest guy in the world and everybody's best friend.
