ReplyDeleteChris Pierce goes on 12:30 PM Eastern. He was a great opener for Neil in 2023.
ReplyDeleteOh, bummer I missed him. But got to see him a few weeks ago when he did an album release show in his hometown of Pasadena. Such a genuinely great guy.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, he only got 15 minutes.. You can back-up on the Youtube stream & watch it, but it was only two songs. He was good, deserved more time.
DeleteLot of good sets and acts I want to follow up: Mon Rovia, Ty Myers. Jesse Welles kicked ass as usual (seeing him the week after next. Love the new song Nerd Reich). Lukas doing a beautiful set so far. I liked Sierra Ferrell, though the religious commentary ain't my thing. Mike Campbell was disappointing, imho. Probably have to watch the replay of Neil and Willie since I'll be out by then.
ReplyDeleteTurnpike troubadours listen to A LOT of Jason Isbell I guess…
ReplyDelete(Especially Decoration Day)
That’s probably why Neil doesn’t listen to anyone else?
All in all lots of talent, especially from “new to me” acts.
Mike Campbell was ok. Just.
He REALLY made a point about NOT living in the past w/ a dramatic pause.
Anyways let’s not 4get the farmer$.
😎
Thrashers Wheat you got the close up. I was waiting I knew I'd see you. CNN
ReplyDeleteFarm Aid, the one time of the year that I watch CNN.
ReplyDeleteNeil coming on soon.
We know, Richie Rich.
DeleteFOX News. 24/7
🙄
TAKE AMERICA BACK!
Not 24/7, dude. I've got other things to do in life besides politics. Perhaps that's something you should consider about yours.
DeleteMy bad. Any/7 is enough.
DeleteDiesel Don makin’ America Great. Again. On the fam farm. Right? Richie. Rich.
I used to get called Richie Rich in grade school by 6-8 year old children. Hard to believe, and pretty sad actually, that you seem to have the same mentality. Not sure how often you get outside in your life, but breathing some fresh air can be a good thing. Maybe give it a shot?
DeleteYer pretty tone deaf I guess?
DeleteI'm glad for powder finger . Spice it up Old Boy
ReplyDeleteNeil steals the show once again.
ReplyDeleteFirst few songs felt a bit shaky, but Old Man started the tide turning. Daddy Went Walkin was energetic and I felt we achieved lift off during Harvest Moon. Then came the absolute POWER of Ol'Black and the two electric tunes.
I swear when Powderfinger exploded, I jumped out of my seat. Then we got broken strings and a cut hand by the end of RITFW. Unreal power from a man about to turn 80.
And let's give it up for the Chrome Hearts, this lineup is quickly climbing the charts as my favorite Neil backup band.
Way to go, Neil!
Nice little set. The Hearts sounding good. Old Blacks strings trashed by the end of RITFW.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Old Black, man I actually got a bit emotional looking at Neil’s strap. All these years it’s been there, all worn and faded now….
‘Are There Any More Real Cowboys’ sounded great!
Steve in Ottawa
Richie you are not wrong there.
ReplyDeleteWell thanks to a late night call of nature was prompted to try the livestream and connected just as Neil started Earth Girl.
So the voice was a little shakey at times but the guitar playing was so strong and the Chrome Hearts really seem in tune to handle the occasional wobble. After the disappointment of the cancelled Euro tour it was just great to see Neil playing “live” again.
Stayed awake for Willie too - someone I confess not to know a great deal about- and that was a fine set too.
Note to Neil, if you tour again consider Willies seated band arrangement. I’d rather have 2 hours of seated playing than an hour standing. Hey the CSNY acoustic circle worked fine in the 70s too so how about revisiting that.
The interval videos from young farmers was also powerful stuff. I happen to resell cheese on the local village market circuit here in Berkshire UK and meet a lot of young local producers trying to find their way in the face of corporate overkill. We need these smaller producers who want to have human interaction and not just sell sell sell.
It’s now 5am here so better turn in again, Happy Farmaid all
Tony Hambone UK
Neil ripping those strings off during Rocking in the Free World was out of control, what a gift that set was. Farm Aid 2026, thank you for the memories!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Neil's set after wathcing it this morning on the replay, but I don't know if I'd say it was the highlight of the day. I think Margo Price had a more energetic presence throughout her set, with a magnificent final song covering Blaze Foley's Oval Office.
ReplyDeleteCrazy just how present Willie still is and his voice still so strong. He's 93! I mean, he's nearly 20 years Mellencamp's senior, but sounded much stronger.
It was fun seeing Thrasher enjoying himself, esp singing along to Jack and Diane. Hold on to 16 as long as you can....
Hello allI would just like to take a moment and thank you all for your kindness and friendship the last few years. Mr. And Mrs. Thrasher, it was a pleasure to spend a few moments. You all have a good crew.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jesse. Our pleasure. Thanks for supporting our farmers, Farm Aid and TW.
DeleteKeep on rockin and we'll see you next year!
I’ll be there.

ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the updates.
ReplyDeleteLook for full on the scene FA report in the coming few or so days. Team coverage of FarmAidians takeover of Virginia Beach.
Good show, shakey start vocally but ultimately inspiring. I love Powderfinger as many others have said over the years.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the song: I love singing it & playing it on guitar. I have been playing guitar again for 10 days now after having hand surgery back in July. I am relieved to be playing again!
Powderfinger is one of my go-to songs. My old dad is still kicking ass in the harmonica in his mid 80’s.
“To fade away so young, with so much left undone. Remember me to my love, I know I’ll miss her.”
Those of us that have cheated death a few times at age 21 can be grateful!
The show was good! The Chrome Hearts rock. The vibe is uplifting for Neil, makes him feel like playing! Thank you all for that! LJ g may you run.
I was sad to miss Thrasher on CNN. Anyone got a vid link?
your rustie grain brother
Alan in Seattle
Really good to hear about your recovery Brother Alan.
Delete#KORITFW
Alan, I don’t have a link but also caught a glimpse of the Thrashers during Neil’s board member Q&A, pre-show.
ReplyDeleteThat may be easier to source?
Cool to see a few familiar faces in the crowd 😎 Nice seats.
Glad to see the Nor’Easter (in September!) didn’t pound Virginia Beach the same way it hit further on up the coast. All wknd.
I’m not gonna comment or critique Neil’s performance, other than to say he’s amazing. And I hope he pumps the brakes a lil’.
I wish I had half his getty up.
One thing I was surprised by & it had nuth’n to do w/ performers.
Farmaid should’ve ran more pieces about data centers. I only saw one…
They are replacing farm land spaces, displacing farm families, depleting resources and further increasing greenhouse gases.
A.I. DOES NOT NEED FOOD OR FARMERS.
But WE as humans DO.
This is not just stopping factory farms. This is FAR WORSE.
Especially in Virginia!
(aka A.I. alley).
Really good read on theVerge.com (paywalled but there is a free trial)

Good things come in threes: 1) Neil Young played Farm Aid. 2) Jesse Welles (JW) posted on TW. 3) Thrasher debuted on CNN.
ReplyDeleteFuture good things also come in threes: 1) Farm Aid 2027 is only 1 year away & JW committed. 2) TW has promised an astonishing write-up & pics of this years festivities. 3)….(Your turn: Insert your good thing comments here)
