2026 marks the 30th Anniversary of Thrasher’s Wheat and we want *you* to help us celebrate rockin' & bloggin' in the free world.

5 years ago in 2021, Neil Young Archives helped us celebrate by publishing a "HAPPY 25th Anniversary Thrasher’s Wheat!" article on the front top of Times-Contrarian.

"HAPPY 25th Anniversary Thrasher’s Wheat!" | Neil Young Archives

Per  "HAPPY 25th Anniversary Thrasher’s Wheat!" | Neil Young Archives:

"Thanks for being there.

We at NYA greatly appreciate your members and their enthusiasm over the years. it will be a great period for us all over the next years as well. Lots more music coming. Our biggest concern is that NYA Volume 3 is so big!

Lots of love and thanks to TW and the people who love it and support it."

To say the thrashers were humbled and honored would be a vast under statement.

And we had tons of fun with our 20th anniversary back in 1996, as well.

And just like Willie Nelson's old guitar Trigger -- while we may be worn and battered -- we will survive and thrive no matter what forces we encounter.

Willie Nelson's guitar "Trigger"

As we asked in the beginning of 2026, what shall we do for our 30th Anniversary here at Thrasher’s Wheat?

It has been a long, long road since 1996 and we would like to make 2026 a year of celebration. A celebration maybe not so much of our little blog website or even of Neil Young. No, a celebration of this wonderful little community we joined back in 1993 that eventually became known as "The force of Rust".

So here's what we're thinking. Thanks to our dear friend Geoff Moore, we've come up with a Thrasher's Wheat 30th Anniversary t-shirt.

Still separating the wheat from the chaff...

And we want all of our readers to have one.

So the next step is to find out how many folks are interested. Once we have some handle on that, we'll figure out the print run and pricing. Then we'll make available to everyone in the TW/Rust/Neil community. How's that sound?

So let us know your interest and we'll go from there. We welcome suggestions and questions below.

We will soon be diligently producing our commemorative T-shirts -- 100% quality cotton. Each shirt will be uniquely hand tie-dyed in a 7 stage process under the Maui, Hawai'i sun (by tie dyers who were trained within the Grateful Dead family tree). Our intention is to connect the dots...to encourage greater connection through sincerity, fun, and focus.

The shirt won't make the difference but you can bet all those that wear it will be trying.

Hand-dyed by artist Zach Wright of InnerLightTieDye, based in Maui, Hawaiʻi. Zach creates one-of-a-kind tie-dye pieces using traditional techniques, with a focus on precision, flow, and depth of color. His work spans wearable art and large-scale backdrops, and has found its way into the hands of notable musicians within the music community over the years. His style is recognized for its balance of structure and organic movement, with layered symmetry and rich color palettes.

This Thrasher's Wheat 30th Anniversary prototype was custom-dyed as a unique collaboration piece, bringing a bold, high-contrast energy to the design.  Zach created this extra crunchy Thrasher's Wheat 30th Anniversary shirt with Neil Young and Rusties in head!

Hey, Thrasher still working on that comforter using Neil's T-Shirts I can no longer wear due to the weight I lost after turning diabetic. The weight I have lost is starting to get very concerning. I will keep you posted on the comforter project. Thanks for everything you do!!!!

  14. Thrasher doing all the heavy lifting for 30 years! Thrashers Wheat is an on line sanctuary for us that is a lot more than just 0’s & 1’s.

The beating heart of the on line Neil Young community is alive & well here on this blog. The pulse is strong, new posts, still great subject choices & content!

New album “in the can” & much anticipation is building. Neil will have themes that are strong & passionate. LWW2? We may be so lucky. I loved that album.

It’s amazing that an old man’s art matters so much to us all! NY has touched us deeply with his Sonic creations & built upon it album after album, tour after tour.

The effect Neil Young music had on us was life changing. It made life better. The passion grew deeper. And Neil is still making beautiful music, Powerful music.

And in his music, there is a resonance that feels like home for us. We see the pictures in Neil’s mind. Like Jonathan Demme said, Neil’s songs are like movies!

Powderfinger has always been a movie to me, created by a song. I used to sing & play that song on guitar & cry every time the final verse arrived:

“Remember me as one you never figured, who would fade away so young, with so much left undone. Remember me to my Love, I know I’ll miss her.”

Devastating. The effects of violence. I relate because I lived through a high speed car wreck in’89 that should have killed me. My poor mother had lost her best friend & sister to a car wreck decades prior. God was looking down maybe & thought my Ma had suffered enough already! My life was spared! I had not even a scratch. Act III begins with me kneeling at the scene of my car wreck a year later & thanking God that my life had been spared. And I decided to make something of myself. At that time I used to listen to Freedom’s “No More” a lot.

So TW & the many of the rest of us have been on a long ride on Thrasher’s coattails (Made possible by an enigmatic musician alpha dog with songs flowing out of him like a strong current in a powerful river.

Thanks to Neil Young for all of the music, known & unknown! Don’t get me started on “known unknowns.”

Helpless was the first song I ever learned on the guitar. Dylan’s Knockin’ On Heavens Door was the logical next song, having some similarities, according to my buddy who gave me some guitar lessons.

My left / fret hand is currently out of commissions. My new Robot hand joint should arrive soon. They are rolling it right now for my joint replacement. It figures that I wore out my middle finger!
Somehow I can still drive, without using it! I was mostly cured of that near Oakland one time in the mid ‘90’s.
“Throw Your Hatred Down.” Peace & Love soon followed!

Much Love to all y’all (no, I am not a southern man, but I did live in Texas for 9 months ‘98; that was as far “south” as I needed to go. It turns out I am allergic to confederate flags. They make me break out in handcuffs!

Ya, the Left Coast is where I feel at home. Among the tall trees & mountains, sky, & water (near where Neil got married to DH on a cool old Baltic Trader sailing ship, in the Salish sea among the San Juan islands).

Up here we like to punch Nazis

  15. Thanks everyone for your pledges of support. We continue to be humbled by the love of our community.

Your support is very much appreciated and we're excited about the anniversary celebration.

Our Pledge Drive continues. If you haven't already pledged yet, please do so as soon as you can. If we do not receive sufficient pledges, we'll be unable to complete the project.

We do want to make sure that everyone who wants to support TW is able to do so. We need a minimum number of pledges in order to move to order and production stages. We would like to complete Pledge Drive by end of April, Ordering in May, Production in June, and Shipment in July.

So let your freak flag fly & don't be denied!
Meanwhile, we'll still be separating the wheat from the chaff...

  16. Hi Thrasher, always appreciating your work I would like to ask you to count me in for one XL shirt. If you have more orders from Germany maybe you can send them together to one person to minimise shipping costs and somebody over here (for instance me) can distribute them.
    Greetings from Berlin
