  1. Keep 'em coming, those tourdates! Let's say add some dates in Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Kopenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, and not to forget: Helsinki. They can leave out that Prussian Gulch close to the Polish border if they only make it to Warsaw, just to give Ukrainians a chance (make the Ukrainian passport the admission ticket). I am being torn between feeling shortchanged and my embarassment about that feeling.

  2. I got to witness Molly Tuttle playing Cortez on the beach in Mexico. It was...killer.

  3. How many more?! 4 dead in Minnesota? Blood on the hands of the Trump supporters. You can change your mind.
Fascism is unAmerican! Liberty is taken by death, with ICE as the Nazi Thug Grim Reaper. Fuck Nazis!

    1. Alan. I am so f’n pissed right now. I feel ya. Please don’t take this the wrong way. I get the distinct sense we are of the same opinion but also in the minority here @ TW. I have found so much more satisfaction venting on Reddit. I get it. I do. But this being a NY fansite…

    2. Btw: the ICE executioner was a cowboy from Texas. A video posting on Reddit showed the State Flag patch on his back. T Rump & Noem are importing Red state militia against Blue state citizens. That’s how you start Civil War 101

  5. HW, maybe it is not venting but something more positive or productive? Neil wrote his editorial smashing Trump, pointing to the truth. It is now entirely obvious that this is fascist brutality. We should no longer be surprised by the fact that so many Americans are "on the other side." Trump opened up a can of worms that reveals much of our nastiness. It has always been there. On the productive side of things, being out in the open gives us a chance to finally destroy it, although this will take a generation or two (at least). The worst of the worst is within us and we must change.

  6. No. I meant venting. The positive things I do are wholly separate and more participatory. In person protests. Being present & supportive. The last rally l attended I purposely stood amongst these Mexican teens. They were very nervous and brave. That is my America. I do agree that T Rump just exposed an open wound that was Always there. I am more optimistic than it taking generations to reverse course. Change is gonna come.
Just hope it’s not a slow roll.

  7. @HW, I'm not sure why you would think we are in the minority on TW? There are a couple of people who comment here who clearly support what is happening, but it seems clear to me they are decidedly in the minority, both on this site and in the population at large.

But your other point is whether this is the right forum to discuss such issues. It is certainly understandable why people would not want to be confronted with discussions about how a once proudly democratic state is sliding into authoritarianism on a fan site for a musician. It's not comfortable. It's not fun. But, this is not just an ordinary fan site. The artist we admire is admired for both his artistry AND for his humanity and willingness to speak out and take a stand. And this is a topic about which he has been unequivocal. To that end, it would strike me as odd if we weren't also discussing this issue. Not only is it okay to make the people who are supporting what is happening to our country to feel discomfort about their choices, it is an imperative.

I think David French (an avowed conservative evangelical Christian) has made an excellent point that helps explain how this slide is able to happen (see his NYT piece at https://www.nytimes.com/2026/01/18/opinion/renee-good-ice-immunity.html). He references the Nazi-era Jewish labor lawyer Ernst Fraenkel who described what he called “the dual state.” The normative state is where people get to live under the rule of law and live normal lives. They are undisturbed when they visit a fan website or watch a football game on TV with their buddies. At the same time, however, there is operating a prerogative state that is capricious and arbitrary and very violent. To quote French, "It’s the continued existence of the normative state that lulls a population to sleep. It makes you discount the warnings of others. “Surely,” you say to yourself, “things aren’t that bad. My life is pretty much what it was.”"

It is a variation on the old saying that, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." Neil is a good man doing something. Obviously, posting a comment on a fan website (or social media) is not enough. We need to do all the other things, too, that you, @hw, and many others are doing too (loved seeing Neil getting out there in the streets too. We need more public figures on the front lines). But it's not nothing to disturb all the places in the normative state where people are able to feel too complacent and think this is all fine.
