Opening Intro

Incidentally,  thanks DJ Alex for the shoutouts here at TW on the recent A Message From Neil Young To "Thrasher and grains". Quite a thrill.  And do we plan to keep "pouring ourself into it" as we emerge from our "unplanned/forced sabbatical" here at Thrasher's Wheat.

As a reminder, Thrasher’s Wheat 25th Anniversary was celebrated on WTJU's "Why Sleep?" with Alex The DJ earlier this year.

As for us? As mentioned, we do plan to keep "pouring ourself into it" as we emerge from our "unplanned/forced sabbatical" here at Thrasher's Wheat.

Thrasher's Wheat will continue to celebrate Neil Young, his music and the fan community.  Our work is far from done.  So we'll see you down the road in 2022.

peace & love,
thrasher & thrashette

pss - Again, thank you so much for reading our articles, sharing them throughout the web, and contributing your own thoughts through comments and messages. Today, more than ever, we need independent thinkers like you folks out there in the rustie-grains villages that rely on a solid moral compass – not a pre-determined agenda – to understand this circus, to stand up, to speak up, and to fight for what is right.

  2. Happy Holidays! Here's Neil doing a song on Ben Keith's great album, Christmas at the Ranch, which even has Johnny Cash on it.

  4. In other news, there's a Christmas gift from Neil as "Summer Songs" has dropped on NYA sometime earlier today with a rather rambling message from Neil that suggests he's been at the Christmas sherry early in the day.

    Another Archives jackpot.

  5. Added info: "Summer Songs" is not on the timeline yet, so may only be a holiday exclusive.

All the best everyone, especially our esteemed hosts,

    1. It is actually on the timeline (on my NYA phone app at least).

  6. Rabbi, you're right there - just checked the phone (Apple app version) and there's an album cover marker sitting between Life and This Note's for You.

But on the PC this marker is missing, however the session tracks are listed on the timeline under Jul 87.

Imagine this is a publishing glitch, but I also notice Lucky 13 is on the phone app timeline, but not the PC one, so maybe time to do a album by album comparison.

  9. Happy holidays and my best wishes to all!

The versions of American Dream and Name of Love are fantastic!

PS. I must have listened to Barn over thirty times till now. As with everything Neil Young, you have to let it grow on you. I find it excellent and I have come to love the same each and every of the songs. And taking the chance, I revisited Colorado, which I still find it very good. It feels to me as chapter one ("Rough winter in the mountains") to what Barn is chapter two ("Somewhat mellower summer thoughts in lower altitude!").

And I think many parallels can be drawn, on thematic or music terms.

Song of the seasons --> Green is blue + Think of me
Canerican -- > Rainbow of colours
Human race --> Shut it down + Help me lose my mind
Don't forget love + Tumblin through the years --> Eternity
    Welcome back --> Milky way
Heading west + They might be lost --> Olden days + I do

    Happy holidays!

  10. Thanks for the heads up on Summer Songs. Listening to it now, it's fantastic.

PS Lucky Thirteen is there on my PC timeline. I recently did a thing where I played the whole timeline from start to finish during Sept-Oct and Lucky Thirteen was definitely there then too.

  11. Happy Holidays, everyone! Summer Songs has been a surprise treat. It’s kind of the Hitchhiker of the 80s. And Steve, I am digging the ambition of your entire timeline listen! I have done them for specific eras but never embarked on a full catalog journey like that.
