The original posting was in response to fans who were dismayed over the ever changing priorities and release schedules on NYA. So is the Neil Young Archives Timeline half-empty? Or half-full? Where did all the 2020 releases flow?
While many folks would be ok if 2020 did go completely blank the way this year has been
going, it turns out that some -- including this blog itself -- made a fundamental mistake in interpreting the timeline. We'll get to that in a moment.
- Young Shakespeare : 1/29/21,
- Rust Bucket : 12/ 04/20,
- Return to Greendale : 11/06/20,
- Archives Volume Two : 11/06/20,
- The Times EP 9/18/20
Now, back to the fundamental mistake in interpreting the timeline. The NYA Timeline is based off of creation date -- not release date. (Thanks Dionys!) So this does make it a bit of a challenge to determine what is being released and when.
A suggestion as a longterm future enhancement, maybe the Timeline could have a toggle between creation and release dates? Just a suggestion because The Archivists definitely have their hands full.
So here's to Uncle Eddie! And who says that writing a Letter to the Editor is a waste of time?
Thank you, guys!
ReplyDeleteI’m sure Neil will release something (besides the EP) this year... the question remains when and what will actually come out, as planned.
Three other releases listed for the fall, most notably Archives 2. Not a bad year, if you ask me. Of course, Archives 1 was endlessly delayed, but I recall reading that Volume 2 was basically done, and Neil was working with Gary Burden and his wife Janice Heo on the physical (and digital) packaging when Burden died in March 2018. Neil said that Heo would be completing the artwork, with his guidance, and that it was beautiful. Fast forward two years, and I'm guessing that it's fully completed. A November release is aligned with Christmas shoppers wanting the perfect gift for the Neil aficionados in your family.
