What a beautiful concert in a beautiful space. On the evening of the full moon, following a blood red eclipse lunar this morning, Neil played a great, intense, generous show in front of a respectful and audibly moved audience. That third new song? Wow. What a treat tonight was; can't wait for tomorrow.

Great show - exact same as Boston on Monday but much more banter with the crowd. Neil actually answered peoples shout outs and laughed along with everyone. The big news was he said "there will be no more CSNY tours -ever". Of course he may change his mind but sounded pretty sure of himself. I think Crosby's most recent comments may have set him off.

ReplyDeleteGreat to experience the rich and moving songs that so perfectly captured the thoughts and feelings of not only Neil but a generation of his peers; amazing how those words came back to so many in the audience, demonstating the power of musical expression to connect us. The lone miss was A Man Needs a Maid, with audible disgust by many women in the audience. He did acknowledge the song made couples "edgy" and made a joke about Maid Marian and Robin Hood -he just doesn't get it.
ReplyDeleteThe new songs mostly chronicled his relationship with Daryl Hannah -"likes my style", "glad i found you", "watch you sleeping". A little uncomfortable watching a guy pushing 70 singing about a much younger woman before the divorce from his wife of 36 years is not even final. Couple that with all the PDA in public venues and you wonder what this guy is thinking. Bet we'll be hearing about that breakup in some new record down the road.
Also lots of relaxed,friendly banter with the audience and comments about environmental issues. Believe Neil is sincere, but many remarked there's a thread of hypocrisy in someone who makes his living flying aroung the world mounting electronic rock concerts, and employed not 1 but 3 buses idling outside, while singing whose gonna stand up & mother earth.
Since he immediately asked us after intermission whether we bought his t-shirts at $35 a pop, it would have been nice if he had walked the walk by donating some of his promo sales revenues to an environmental cause. Standing up is nice, but doing is what affects change.
