ReplyDeleteFrom a fan who can remember buying that first Buffalo Springfield album at 15. And this is my one of these days to you. At 11 I got my first guitar and acoustic at 13 i got an electric to be cool like the Beatles and Stones . When I was 19 I bought this certain live album by what they were callling supergroup in Cream magazine and Datebook . I heard a new version of this song " Cowgirl in the sand " and i bought my first acoustic since I went electric . I still Own both electic and acoustic today. And seeing you play it at the old Masonic temple in Detroit in those days . Thanks for showing me both could be cool to play . This is my long letter thanking you and Happy Birthday again Neil.

Late night Sportscenter did a wonderful Birthday Salute to Neil ("Happy Birthday Neil Young") during the hockey wrap up with Neil Everett and Barry Melrose.
ReplyDeleteNeil Everett: "Here to help us celebrate the great Canadian Neil Young's 68th birthday is another great Canadian, Barry Melrose."
Barry Melrose: "And the greatest Canadian of all, Scott Young, Neil's father, wrote some of the best Hockey books ever in the 1950's. I've read every one; they're all classics."
Then Neil Everett managed to lead each game's highlights with a song reference:

Barry was quite amused by the song references, and had a big smile. Then Neil Everett signed off on the segment with "Barry Melrose, our Mister Soul".
Very cool, hope that some of you caught this as well. And I really hope that Neil saw this; I'm sure Barry's tribute to his Dad would mean a lot to him.
And here's my little Happy Birthday to the great Mr. Young. It's Nick and Mary Lou doing Nick's song (and their song) Lights Are Changing. Not my video, but I was there for this great performance; first half acoustic and second half brain melting electric. Spoke with Nick after the show and told him what a great set he played. Thanked him for being there...he flew over from England just for this show.
