From Broward Palm Beach Music | Concert Review: Neil Young at Hard Rock Live, September 23 - - County Grind by Lee Zimmerman:
Looking dapper in a white fedora, seersucker sports jacket, dark tee shirt and jeans, he won the capacity crowd's approval early on, performing acoustic versions of 'My My, Hey Hey,' 'Tell Me Why' and 'Helpless' in succession, seemingly intent on fulfilling the audience's expectation that he'd return to his wandering hippie days of old. But then again, Young is also known for foiling that anticipation and here he did the same. Although he did shuffle from acoustic guitar to upright piano to grand piano and, for one number, 'After the Goldrush,' even to a pipe organ -- all with his ever present harmonica in tow -- he also rocked out on electric guitar with a ferocity that rivaled his full band shows.
Neil Young will be performing tonight at the Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood Hotel & Casino, Hollywood, Florida. Allen Toussaint will open the concert.

ReplyDeleteNeil performed an awesome show! The concert hall was just not the right venue for a solo show. The venue is more for big band acts the casino attached comps concert tickets to folks that may not be interested in the artist performing. This makes it difficult for people paying bucks for the show. The people behind us were comped tickets and did not have any interest in the show and had there own party going on very distracting.
ReplyDeleteTremendous show! His electric guitar pieces were highlights, it often sounded like he had a whole band behind him. I'm glad I listened to Le Noise beforehand on NPR as it gave me a deeper appreciation of these great new songs. There are only a few of ANY generation putting out new material of such substance now. I agree that there were a few people who were distracting, unable to put away their pathetic cell phone toys even during the show. Fortunately, Neil's performance was so powerful that we were able to tune out the vacant and clueless ones. Someone yelled out "You're the king, Neil!" at one point. Hard to disagree.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite one last night was definately "Cortez". I've been following NY since the late 70's and he's the one who got me playing the acoustic guitar way back when. Long May You Run Neil! Thanks for the treat.
