"Winterland Stories" Video Report

winterland-chris-horn.jpg

"Winterland Stories" author and Rustie Chris Horn was recently interviewed by the local San Francisco TV station KGO-TV CH7/ABC on the 30th Anniversary of the "Closing of Winterland" 12/31/78.

Winterland was a famed venue in San Francisco - Bill Graham hosted rock shows there from 1966 until he closed it in 1978. Winterland was, what could be regarded as, a local historic rock n roll venue in its later years.

Chris was interviewed at the location where Winterland stood and spoke of his impressions of the Winterland experience.

Go to "A look back at the legendary Winterland".

Great job Chris! You were in good company with Carlos Santana and Mickey Hart!

  1. Chris, you're a movie star!
The TV report is pretty impressive in it's length, and contains some great video and still shots - Chris, did you have a hand in that?
I enjoyed the report and thanks Chris and Thrasher for letting us know about it.

  2. Could it be that the video only works in the US ?

I don't get it to work over here in Europe.

  5. Very interesting stuff. I lived in SF back in '96 and '97 on Green Street just up from the Marina and probably a 15 minute walk from the corner of Steiner and Post. I remember those Condos but had no idea that Winterland was located there! Check out my blog: www.subrosacafe.com and thanks

  6. Loved this post! I lived in SF back in the mid-'90's and had no idea the old Winterland was only about a 15 minute walk from my place on Green and Vallejo. I remember seeing those condos back then on the corner of Post and Steiner. Thank god we still have the Fillmore. Long live rock and roll and please check out my blog: www.subrosacafe.com
